I enjoy meeting new people and sharing my home.
Home, grounds, and pool were beautiful. Owner is very thorough, protective, and detail-oriented. We definitely enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended site in Sonoma County for a big group.
The house and its location was amazing. Mark was a great host and very accommodating.
I absolutely give Mark and his home the highest rating. The property is beautiful, and Mark was very helpful and hospitable. He lives just next door and is available to help if anything is needed. The home and property are very well taken care of, as well as energy efficient. It felt like someone's home, not just a rental. I would definitely book this place again.
We had a phenomenal stay in Mark's Sebastopol oasis! We're a fairly low-key group of 9 women in our 20s-30s, celebrating my sister's bachelorette. (Only mentioning that we're low-key because we didn't have any problems keeping noise down late at night, which I know is a concern because of some neighbors nearby-- we enjoyed the hot tub at night, but weren't too rowdy, and in bed by midnight!)
The house itself was lovely and clean, with plenty of room to spread out and relax, and to all hang out together. A bonus was the large open kitchen, where some of us could prepare meals while still being a part of the group hanging out. We also used the big grill outside.
The outdoor space was gorgeous, just like the photos. The pool & hot-tub were very clean & in working condition. It was hot enough outside to dip in the pool, but still too chilly to really swim (it is solar heated, and there hadn't been enough sun to get it going by saturday). We all brought extra towels, per Mark's recommendation.
There is little/no cell service at the house, but Mark provided us with his wifi password so we were able to plan ahead & coordinate. It's also really nice that the town of Sebastopol is nearby, so we were able to pick up groceries at Safeway/Whole Foods.
We had planned to explore Sebastopol on Saturday, but ended up hanging out by the pool all afternoon because it was so lovely & relaxing. Some other fun things we did in the area: in-house private belly dancing lesson from Seba @ Wildcard Bellydance; delicious farm tour at Full House Farm; (email hidden) & Bistro in Graton; treatments at Osmosis Day Spa.
Thanks for a wonderful weekend!
My fiance and I wanted to escape city life for one night, to a cozy faraway place with a hot tub. When we arrived we found out the hot tub was, sadly, out of commission! Instead we layered up with blankets and read books to the sound of rainfall, then watched a DVD with glorious surround sound. The almost-too-big house really sparkled in the morning sunshine; our morning walk around the misty property was the highlight of our stay. Mark was a gracious host who greeted us with a quick, informative tour of the place, and upon departure directed us to a great brunch spot in Occidental (Howard's).
Mark is a great host. We had the house for a week and he came in to change sheets and refresh towels halfway though the week. The house is very comfortable and well equipped. Highly recommend.
Mark graciously showed us around the property which includes a lovely home with its remodeled kitchen, warm pool and spa. We enjoyed our stay at this property that included ducks and a beautiful vegetable garden. We used it as a base to tour Sebastapol, Occidental, Freestone and Bodega traveling the back roads.
We stayed in Mark's home in early August 2013. We were a group of 10 adults. The home and grounds were very nice. We loved the pool, kitchen area and outdoor dining table. The home is located in the heart of the Western Sonoma wine country. We did walks and bike rides on nearby county paths and the road. We would definitely return for a future gathering.
We gathered a group of 5 college friends and their spouses/significant others to stay at Mark's home during a friend's wedding weekend in Sebastopol, which we treated as a mini-reunion 8 years post-graduation. Mark's son was there to greet us, give us a tour of the house/property, and give us some helpful pointers for the weekend. The home was great - clean, charming interior and property grounds, enough space to accommodate everyone, and only about 2 miles away from the wedding venue (as well as a relatively short drive away from the best bread place ever - Wild Flour Bakery - and the post-wedding brunch in Bodega Bay). If we had more time outside of wedding activities, I would have loved to take advantage of cooking in the open kitchen or out on the grill. Perhaps next time!
A couple quirks that may be helpful to know before you book the house ...
- The last half mile or so of road to get there is a bit windy, bumpy and dark at night, so if you're up there for a wedding or other festivities involving wine/cocktails, I'd recommend making alternative transportation plans to be safe.
- I will admit this group of 30 year-old married and normally low key friends got a bit too excited to see each other on Friday, after some of us had been living in Costa Rica for the past three years, others living across the country for medical/law/business school, etc. So after the rehearsal dinner on Friday, we came back to the home and got a little louder than I would have expected. But Mark's son was kind enough to reach out preemptively and let us know we were probably being a bit loud for the neighbors. Thankfully (for me and the neighbors), this group of good friends was quick - and happy - to take steps to simmer down and to keep the noise level down the next evening.
- WiFi access was great in the house and everywhere on the property, but none of us could get more than 1 bar of service on our cell phones. So text messages and emails seemed to be a better/more reliable way to communicate with those who did a coffee or breakfast run and with guests/friends who were staying at a nearby hotel.
All in all, it was a great experience, Mark and his son were very friendly and helpful, and I would definitely recommend staying here for a weekend retreat.
Great place/great host- Mark was very gracious and the house is a wonderful base for exploring the region or just for hanging out. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience (and even got some duck eggs from Mark in the process. Very cool). Great place for friends to hang out and reconnect and relax. I was with eight close friends for a weekend of golf, grilling and wine.
