I live and work in Woodstock New York.
My friends and I enjoyed a wonderful birthday weekend at Michael's house. The house was beautiful and even better than the pictures. We were comfortable and warm in this cozy and charming home. Because it was cold out, we really enjoyed the big screen TV with Netflix for movie watching.
Michael was a very friendly and responsive host, he took care of all of our needs and was a pleasure to do business with.
I will rent from Michael again.
Response from Michael:
Thanks so much, please come back and there will be a bottle of wine for you.
We had a great experience at Michael's house in Woodstock. Michael was very easy to make arrangements with and the house was beautiful, comfortable and spacious. I'd definitely recommend renting from Michael.
The Byrrdcliffe House is a charming property very close to Woodstock. The main bedroom and the house in general are very spacious, the beds are comfortable, the house is clean with great light. The kitchen is adequately stocked with crockery and other basics. Michael was very friendly and responsive. We spent a Presidents Day weekend in snowy conditions, and were warm and comfortable, and loved the fireplaces.
We had a great visit in Woodstock over the Christmas holiday break (even though all the snow had vanished by the time we arrived). Michael's house is perfect for a visit, especially if you have kids who need to run around and be active. The space is wide open and inviting, the dining room spacious and comfortable for a large group meal, the kitchen well stocked. All in all, a delightful place to stay.
The Mill House is a charming, rustic space with a beautiful view on the side of the house that overlooks the water. The gas stove makes the inside cozy, and the back deck provided great outdoor space. The downstairs bathroom has a wall of windows that provides a beautiful view, which can be seen from the downstairs bedroom. The only drawbacks are that the house sits very close to the main road (there is some noise, but the road didn't seem to be too heavily trafficked during the night), and there aren't doors on the bedrooms (a curtain covers the door to the downstairs bedroom, and the upstairs loft bedroom is also open). Mike, the host, left some lights and the wood stove on for us to make the house inviting for our late evening arrival. We had a very nice stay!
My boyfriend and I (and our little dog Baxter) wanted to escape the city for the Labor Day weekend and decided to spend it at Michael's Field Studio in Woodstock; we had an amazing time.
The place is even prettier in person and Michael was a great host. He greeted us the moment we arrived, walked us through the beautifully decorated house, provided nearby restaurant recommendations, and even arranged for there to be a grill outside per our request.
The location couldn't have been better, just a quick drive into town and within a mile to the millstream swimming hole (which Baxter loved!).
This is the perfect place for a weekend getaway, we will definitely be making a trip back.
My boyfriend and I were looking to get out of NYC for a weekend with another couple. This is one of the first places we saw on air bnb and knew it would be perfect. Michael was quick to respond and provided us with all the information we would need about the house and area. When we arrived and saw we were on a beautiful racing waterway, we knew this was for us. The house has a rustic charm that makes you feel like you’re home. We were pleased to see fresh flowers and coffee for them morning on the kitchen counter. The kitchen is in perfect working order and the sleeping accommodations were good. My boyfriend was able to fly fish right across the road from the house and we took daily excursions to explore the beautiful Catskills. I would definitely recommend the Mill House!
My hip daughter found this place which allowed dogs, a big perk for us. The moment we arrived we felt at home and at peace. Lovely setting on a fenced in acre with a pool big enough to swim laps in, workable kitchen, hot tub, right near town and blessedly quiet. Michael couldn't have been nicer. The hot tub was not ready for use but he promptly fixed it and felt so bad he told us to have a meal on him at a spot in town. All in all, a great spot to which we would love to return.
The house is spacious and perfectly located close enough to town for a nice dinner, but still far enough away that you get a great sense of the surrounding nature. The pool is really nice!
Michael is a thoughtful host and was responsive to my questions and concerns.
I think the previous review from John was unduly harsh. It's true the house isn't totally up to speed--it's an older house. And it's not the most spotless house I've ever encountered. One warning, this is not the house for you if you're interested in cooking...the kitchen needs an update.
But it's a charming spot where my family and I were able to relax and unwind.
I paid over 500. a night, the place smelled and had a coat of dirt all over the collection of yard sale furniture and supplies. The description is not false; close to town, large pool, large space, porch, small bbq grill... what you cannot find in this description are the following descriptions; the smell upon entry, the itch when you sit on the furniture, the smell when your trying to sleep, nor the splinters you will find in your foot from the wrap-around deck.
Michael is nice enough, he came over to heat up the "SPA" an outdated hot tub that you may not feel good about getting into. I reached out to Michael because I was unable to open his document that included directions, this was Friday around 2 - He called me Saturday after 2 to follow up.
The place is large, the surroundings are beautiful and the house could be great - I doubt .1 penny of my 500+ a night will go towards the missing flatware or a new coffee pot - forget about the amount of maintenance the place needs. If you like camping, this place is fine. If you like "rustic" and I use this term loosely, it may work for you. Though, if you like sitting in a clean comfortable sofa, appreciate a good nights rest, or like the idea of fresh air inside... I would keep looking.
I have stayed at places for 100 a night that had better standards.
