Goal is to have the Best Cabin Rental business in The Red River Gorge Area!!
Black bear rental cabins was a great place. I highly recommend! The cabin and location were beautiful, and Luke couldn't have been more accommodating. Will go again!
We had such a cozy and warm experience at this cabin. We loved the fact that Luke takes enormous pride in a place he built with his own two hands! Be careful if you bring a pooch there is a road nearby, although it's not very busy. We plan to visit again!
My husband and I were looking for a cabin for a couple of nights with a handful of requirements: dog-friendly, heated, close to Red River Gorge, and affordable. Luke's cabin fit the bill! This was the perfect cabin for a couple and their dog.
Luke met us at the Ashland Gas & Grocery just off the highway, and we followed him to the cabin from there. He showed us the basics and made sure we knew he was just a phone call away. We noticed right away that there were plenty of blankets and towels, and also many kitchen staples (butter, margarine, coffee, hot cocoa, oats, etc.). The bathroom had shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soaps, toilet paper, tissues and a hair dryer - if you forgot to pack something, chances are Luke had it taken care of for you!
Everything we used worked great - coffee maker, toaster, stove, television and the heater. The water in both the bathroom and the shower got nice and hot, and quick. We did not use the oven, crock pot or DVD player but it was nice to know they were there if we needed them. The memory foam bed in the loft was comfortable and we all got a good night's sleep. We didn't spend much of the daytime at the cabin because we were hiking, but the evenings were nice and quiet.
Overall, the three of us really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. The next time we head to the Gorge we will definitely give Luke a call to stay again.
Luke is great and he has a great little cabin. Because of the crazy cold weather there was a problem with the water when I got there. He offered to find us a different cabin and even drove me over to take a look. He arranged everything with the owner of the other cabin and even provided us some some soap and extra TP when he noticed that the other cabin was sparse on such things. He's a great host: thoughtful, detail-oriented, and personable.
My boyfriend and I went down to the RRG for our anniversary and this cabin was so cute and romantic. Very small but perfect size for us. Luke was a great host, who offered to meet us at a gas station off the highway to make sure we made it to the right location and to show us around the cabin. We also brought our two smaller dogs and they loved it! We went during the week of 11/11 so it was really cold when we arrived. The heating system kept us pretty warm but I would recommend bringing slippers and thick socks to walk around the cabin in because the floor boards get a little chilly. Also, when you go to bed at night make sure to turn down the heat because the loft, where the bed is located, can get pretty toasty. There is fan in the wall to plug in to keep the hot air from collecting in the loft area that I would recommend to turn on. We took all our own food to make. There is no microwave but there is a large refrigerator and electric stove with an oven. If you plan on making a complicated meal I would bring your own utensils like cutting knives, cutting board, etc. We made Chili in the Crock-Pot provided but it was a smaller size so if you have more two people I would recommended bringing a bigger Crock-Pot if you plan on using it. The only issue we had with the cabin was the next morning, after our arrival, the toilet would not refill (we assumed the pipes were frozen) so we had to go outside which wasn't too big of a deal because I'm used to going outside when I'm hiking/backpacking but I see how this could be an issue for others. When we returned from our day hike everything was working fine. We had a great time and would love to return, thanks Luke!
Luke was very flexible with our last minute scheduling change. Great guy, very excited to visit the cabin soon.
Great little cabin. It has a small kitchen with basic equipment (pots, pans, coffee maker, etc.) and even some food in the pantry. There's a grill and a fire ring outside, along with plenty of firewood and charcoal. The sleeping area in the attic is very cute and cozy, though a little bit difficult for me to get in and out of -- I'm about six feet and the ceilings are very low. The cabin itself is up a steep gravel road, within earshot (barely) of two other small cabins. We were there for climbing in the RRG, and it was perfect for us. Plenty of room in the living room to splay out our gear.
Luke's cabin is very nice and well-furnished. We went with all three of our kids (ages 5, 9, 11) and two dogs. While the cabin was not designed for a family of five and two dogs, we were plenty comfortable and had no problem making it work well for us. We could not have asked for a more friendly and helpful host than Luke. He was very flexible with our arrival and departure times and was very helpful in making recommendations of where we could find supplies and groceries in the nearby area. The cabin is within minutes of Natural Bridge State Park and Red River Gorge and we went to see both. It is also very easily accessible from the highway and though easy to find, gives the feeling of remote seclusion and privacy. The grill, picnic table, and fire pit all came in handy and were welcome and appreciated features. I would highly recommend this cabin for a romantic getaway for a couple or a family retreat and will definitely visit again when we make another trip to the area. Thanks, Luke!
Luke's cabin was the perfect place to come back to after a long day of hiking. The bed was super comfortable, the kitchen was well-equipped and it was so nice to find a place that we could take our dogs (at no extra cost!). We all had a good time!
Our stay was perfect. The cabin was neat and clean and just the perfect size for us. We were so pleased to find out this cabin did not require a 2 night minimum stay or have any additional cleaning fees like the great majority of cabins in the area. Luke was kind enough to move our checkout time to late afternoon so we could stop back by the cabin to clean up after rock climbing before heading home. We will definitely be checking this cabin out again on return trips to the Red River Gorge area.
Luke has a beautiful, cozy, furnished log cabin. It is in a great location close to the Gorge and Natural Bridge area. Entrance to the cabin is easy. A country store and Campton KY is near by for purchase of supplies. Quiet and private area with much to offer nature lovers.
