Fantastic location, fantastic apartment - too much to see and do you'll end up wanting to stay forever.
Especially great for people who like to cook their own meals and watch the world go by from the windows to Ludlow.
Loved this place, will absolutely stay again. Chris and Sylvie were extremely helpful even though it was a last minute stay.
Note: the shower in the kitchen is not for everyone, but we loved it.
Me and my mom spend Thanksgiving here. We had a really great time in New York and this little hideaway was perfect. It's in the middle of a lot of nice little shops, bars and restaurants, and at the same time it's a nice place to go back to after a long day of running around in the city.
It was pretty cold outside so we had the radiators on, who are making quite a lot of noise, but if your not a light sleeper you get used to it eventually and when we got back home we almost missed it. :)
We can definitely recommend this place and would like to come back one day.
Thanks to Chris and Sylvie!
Brilliant location, lovely studio flat, for 5 days I felt like a local. Could not fault anything, everything was great and would stay time and time again.
After weeks of deliberation about where to stay in New York, we finally opted for airbnb - it was our first experience of finding accommodation this way and I’m sure we will use it again, having had a very positive experience overall.
Sylvie’s studio apartment in the Lower East Side was exactly what we were looking for. Somewhere to crash at the end of the day but not another chain hotel (especially given the jaw-dropping prices of even the grottiest Manhattan hotels). The photos on the ad do not do it justice - it is a great space, very large for a studio and separated into different living areas. There is a kitchen, which we used each day and there are numerous small grocery stores nearby. The transport links in the local area are very handy...only a few blocks to several subway lines. Having free wifi access was very useful. Soft bedding and towels were provided. The apartment was homely and comfortable, very clean and tidy too (NO bedbugs also, which is not to be taken for granted in NYC). The bathtub in the kitchen was a new experience, but not a problem.
The Lower East Side was a vibrant and characterful area to be based in - we had been looking at some hotels around the Theatre District and were so glad we chose to stay in the apartment, feeling like we had a dose of the real NY. Many of the shops in the area are so cool they don’t even have names. Around the corner from the apartment is a fantastic new macaroon place.
Two minor gripes, which should only apply to light-sleepers. We visited in November, so the building heating is on, and was very noisy at random periods throughout the night, hissing and spluttering. The noise always dies down after a while though, so it is not a major issue. If you are staying over a Friday/Saturday, be aware that the street is basically the hub of the Lower East Side and so it is extremely noisy at night. On the Friday night we stayed, there was pretty much a street party until 3.30am and cars were driving around the blocks honking their horns until 5am. Bring your earplugs.
Though we never actually met Sylvie, she was very easy to deal with - extremely prompt to reply to emails ands texts. She also sent us some very helpful info before arrival - tips on the best transportation from the airports and recommendations for local restaurants.
If you are hesitating over going for this apartment over a hotel room, don’t - you won’t regret it.
The apartment is very cute and in a great location: Many restaurants and bars right at your doorstep and only a short walk to the subway. Communication with the owner was very good too. Would definitely stay here again, when in New York.
We had a wonderful stay here - the apartment was just fantastic, and perfect for exploring the city. Even though it's a studio, it felt very spacious and we loved the quirky layout. It was hard to leave at the end of our six days, but we'll definitely come back here next time we're in the city. Sylvie was great at answering all my questions and really put my mind at rest about hiring somewhere through airbnb. We definitely recommend staying here.
We stayed here for 6 nights during September and the apartment was great in terms of location, size, amenities and characterful(bath in the kitchen area)! The lounge was nice and there was a separated dressing and bedroom area as well. Free wifi was a bonus so we could use the internet to check out places to go sight seeing during the day! The place is right in the middle of a street with lots of bars and restaurants which meant we were spoilt for choice and didnt have to walk very far at the end of the evening! ;p)
Charismatic appartment in one of Manhattan's most happening neighbourhoods.
Clear and fast commuication with Sylvie.
For an original Lower East Side experience do stay here.
This was our first time renting an apartment for a holiday and using AirBnB and we were not disappointed. Communication with Sylvie was prompt and she answered all our queries promptly.
The apartment itself is in a fantastic location, right in the thick of things in the up-and-coming (and so nearly there!) Lower East Side with all needs catered for. We felt very safe at all hours as we discovered the most amazing restaurants, bars and live music venues all within a block of the apartment. There is a drugstore/supermarket, bank, millions of ATMs, laundromat, candy store, burger joint, a dozen bars, cute dress shops and a Steven Allen shoe shop all within a block or two of the apartment. The subway is within two blocks with connections to several lines. The delights of SoHo, NoLiTa, East Village, NoHo are within 5-10 minutes walk.
The apartment itself is full of tenement character (bath in the kitchen - totally charming), bright, airy, clean and comfortable and spacious. Any time we did spend there apart from sleeping in the comfortable bed, was downloading pics from the day from camera to laptop to upload to (website hidden) using the free wifi or in the living room flicking through cable TV and planning our next day adventures in NYC - all in air-conditioned comfort. Although there are four flights of stairs to reach the top floor, it's not a big deal as you only do it once or twice a day. And yes, the street can be noisy at night as it's a popular part of the area, but if you aren't out there enjoying it yourself, a combination of the air-conditioning blocking out the background and just getting used to the sounds of NYC meant we never had a sleepless night.
That is, after the first night...my husband left his backpack in the taxi from JFK (with iPhone, wallet, passport, camera and US$770) so on our arrival Chris was amazingly helpful offering us use of his cell to call the tax company. He thought of things to do we would not have known to do in such circumstances. He really did go out of his way to help us out despite it being the middle of the night. While we lost sleep on the first night, our honest taxi driver returned everything to our door as it was within 24hrs. It really was a miracle.
We would highly recommend Sylvie & Chris' apartment and would honestly stay again if we ever had the good fortune to be in NYC again.
Great guest - was also helpful in giving me guidance on how to make future stay even better, which I truly appreciate. Little man is always welcome!
This apartment is the greatest. Spacious and clean. It is definitely more than just a regular studio with the separate rooms! Amazing location, safe and fun. The music venues in the neighborhood have nightly live music, some of them free. You can always catch great bands while having a relax drink. If you come to NYC for a vacation, you're in the right place to see it all and you'll have the coolest pad to come back to after a long day of sightseeing.
