I am a true lover of life. I relish new experiences the way I relish a great cup of coffee or an especially good sunset. I like to learn anything new, whether it be how to say, "Where is the winery?" in German, how to sail a boat, or ride a motorcycle. I am passionate about two things: travel and flying, and also my family and friends. I care about others needs more than my own and ultimately fear missed opportunities to fill my life with a palette of experiences more than just about anything else. Dying doesn't scare me nearly as much as not living!
I was a flight attendant for eight years so I got to indulge the wanderlust side of my personality. I've been to London, Amsterdam, Budapest, Prague, Brussels, Bruges, Capetown, and Dubai. While I'm happy to have gone to these places, there was never enough time to realIy get out and see the countryside. However, I've also lived in Alaska for five years and Hawaii for the past two and I know these two places very well. In travel I find a fuller life! I'm also a licensed pilot and am absolutely, hopelessly, unapologetically an airplane geek. Flying is where I find my religion and I hope to be able to do it until my last day.
I've been hosting CouchSurfers for the past year and I've found that I really enjoy the hosting aspect of having complete strangers come into my home and us get to know each other over the course of their stay. Maybe it's the attendant in me but I really enjoy the satisfaction that comes with providing a good experience for my guests, be it good advice on what to see and do, brewing fresh coffee in the morning, or having everything clean, ready, and in order when guests arrive. Having traveled a lot myself (staying in everything from hostels and guesthouses to five-star hotels), I know only too well what kinds of things are important to me in a homestay -- clean linens, a comfy bed, and a hot shower after a long day of traveling or sightseeing. Oh, and a friendly host, of course..
I really, really enjoy living on the Big Island of Hawaii and have been lucky enough to settle in and get to know it pretty well. I'm amazed every day that a place as special as this exists and that I get to call it home and I'm thrilled when I get to share it with others.
Hope to see you soon!
