Wow. This space is amazing. It is really beautiful. Perfect for a romantic vacation or to rent out both rooms and bring the in-laws (what we wish we did). The bakery down the street is super cute and unique. We'll definitely be back.
Lovely space in a nice location. We will definitely consider staying here next time in Eugene.
A lovely quiet setting and well furnished. Beds were very comfortable. If you are sharing the space with strangers, try for the upstairs bedroom. Roomier and more private, and you won't be disturbed by people assembling breakfast in the downstairs communal eating area. We were drenched watching the Olympic Trials, and our hostess graciously offered to let use her clothes dryer.
We stayed at Gables View Cottage for 4 nights over the graduation weekend and absolutely loved it. In fact we rented the whole cottage, lower & the upper rooms so that our son stayed there with us. The cottage is a 6 minute drive from the campus and is absolutely lovely! I wished we had found the cottage 4 years ago when my daughter started at UofO. The one thing to note is that there are no TV's or radio/stereo and so we borrowed an ipod docking station from our daughter to listen to music. I would also suggest bringing board games or cards with you. Thanks Chris sharing your fabulous garden and cottage with us.
We rented both the upper and lower rooms of the cottage four nights over graduation last weekend. I have submitted my full review under the lower room site. We absolutely loved the cottage and the neighborhood. I will add that the room upstairs was our favorite because of the large bathroom and deck off the living space. We definitely will stay here again.
The Gables cottage was a peaceful and serene area to rest and enjoy. The grounds were beautiful. We were there for the Eugene Marathon in which rest is important thus, this proved to be very important to us. The best Italian restaurant in town was down the Street on East Amazon called Mazzi's plus they have a great bakery behind it. The owner greeted us and shared stories with us. Eugene was awesome !
This was a lovely place to stay in Eugene near the campus- only about 12 or so minutes depending on the traffic. We were there for the Eugene half marathon and it was so much more comfortable and relaxing than a hotel. Chris and his family are thoughtful hosts- we had fresh fruit, drinks, and a wonderful organic asparagus quiche. The lower room was very comfortable, nice hot water in the shower, and the grounds were full of flowers and places to sit and read. The upper room was rented and the people were nice and fun to chat with in the common area.
If I manage to make myself run more than 5 miles again:) I hope to do the Eugene race and stay at Gables View Cottage.
Initially, we had a very enjoyable experience staying in the upper level of the Gables View Cottage. We enjoyed fresh biscuits or scones each morning and the property is absolutely breathtaking. Unfortunately, at the end of our stay we experienced a freak snow storm. We woke up on our final morning to find nearly a foot of snow, and considering the property is on a hill, and not a single person was expecting snow, there was no way for us to check-out, as a branch that was connected to a 1,000 watt powerline fell onto my car. My frustration with our stay here was that we were asked to park our car on the side of the road rather than on the driveway designated for guests because another individual staying in the lower level requested to have it available at all times, when he was checking in the following day after our arrival. Personally, I believe this should have been on a first come, first serve basis, rather than reserving this parking spot for a particular guest just because they requested that. So, in parking our car on the side of the road, my car was very susceptible to the storm and unfortunately experienced costly damages. In fact, the branch above my car literally exploded and was smoldering for hours while the electricity line was still active. We essentially were physically unable to check-out, not only because I could not touch my car, but also because I needed to be present when Lane County electricity arrived to remove the fallen branch and have me move my car. In realizing how time consuming this process would be, I asked Chris' wife, as Chris was at work, if she was able to rent the upper level out to us for an additional night so that we could be close at hand when the electricity company arrived. She was initially very apologetic about everything that had happened and welcomed us to stay another night, and asked us to pay for it on airbnb when we had the opportunity (the power was out during this time) to pay for an additional night. Later in the day, another mess occurred the lower level bedroom's ceiling began leaking after I took a bath upstairs. Because of this issue, Chris' wife told us we would have to find other accommodations so that the other guest (who had, in fairness, paid for a month's stay) could move upstairs. All of our things were unpacked and we were rushing to pack up our things as they repaired the bathtub. We began getting the vibe that we were inconveniencing them when the reality of the situation was that we had agreed to stay an additional night and my car was damaged because of the inadequate parking area. At this point, we waited downstairs with all of our bags until the electricity company arrived. We left extremely frustrated. All in all, our stay was originally quite nice, aside from the extremely creaky bed frame, the freak storm, and the feeling that we weren't very welcome here. I want to give this place the benefit of the doubt and reason that they were stressed due to the storm...
The cottage is as perfect as it is pictured! Clean, warm and cozy accommodations. Yummy scones provided for breakfast too!
We stayed one night on the top floor of Chris's cottage. The whole house was lovely and the bedroom and bathroom were very clean. The owners answered all of our questions and were always available. I would recommend this place to anyone, and I would stay again.
