We live in a beautiful home in the middle of San Francisco. I work with technology start-up companies here in various roles (board member, CEO, attorney, investor, advisor, etc.). My wife, Christine, is Scottish. We met at the University of Edinburgh while we were students. She is a book publisher. We are very much in love. We have two fantastic children, Olivia (who just graduated from Dartmouth College and now works at Ogilvy in New York) and James (a freshman at the University of California, Berkeley). We travel frequently, and while we like fine hotels we also like using Airbnb so we can stay in places where we can get a sense of what it is like to live there.
I try to treat each person I meet with the same degree of respect, no matter their station in life. I find that those who expect less respond with kindness and generosity, while those who demand more are not always so warm. I choose my friends for their intelligence and craziness, never for what they might do for me.
I try to be honest about my feelings and thoughts. I believe that if you lie about who you are you will not get what you deserve. But if you are honest with other people then you will find what you deserve.
I try to be kind in my dealings with each person, even complete strangers.
I try to value each day on earth. Maybe there is life after this. None of us can know. But this life and this earth feel like paradise to me.
