My son and me had a wonderful time in New York staying in Angelica's apartment. The location is exactly what we were looking for: quiet enough to stroll around the streets comfortably, to sit in the sun for brunch, or to visit the flea market on Sunday. Lively enough, at the same time, to offer excellent options for shopping, eating out and cultural activities. It was a short walk to Central Park and the Museum of Natural History, and a very pleasant walk across the park to reach the Metropolitan. Frequent public transport was literally around the corner, making it fast and simple to reach any destination in Manhattan or Brooklyn.
The apartment itself is large, especially for Manhattan, and very comfortable. It had everything we needed, including a fully equipped kitchen we used to cook dinner some nights. It is a 5th floor, meaning 4 flights of stairs, but that was not an issue for us. It has a lot of natural light and the bedroom windows face a big, broad street (not sure I can give exact names here), meaning no buildings block the morning light.
Angelica was very easy to communicate with, both before and during our stay there. Even though she was on a work trip she checked on us a few times to make sure everything was ok. She is honest, clear and flexible. We had the opportunity to meet her and Nilkos, it was a pleasure to find such a friendly, charming and easygoing couple.
I highly recommend the place and would easily stay there again. It was the first time in New York for my son (12), and he was delighted by the experience - he loved the city, but he also loved to become a part of it for a while, living in a real apartment and feeling a bit like a native.
Thank you, Angelica and Nilko.
I highly, enthusiastically recommend that you book this property! As a former New Yorker, I am rather picky about the types of places in which I stay and, particularly, their locations. By far the most enjoyable (and easiest) neighborhood to make home base during a visit to the city is the UWS. It is quiet and feels like a real neighborhood - there are amazing restaurants and bars and shops on every block - and the transportation options (I would advise walking and subway exclusively) are the most plentiful in the city. Plus, this apartment is one block from the Natural History Museum (and its park), two blocks from Central Park and three blocks from Shake Shack!
Angelica is kind and gracious and responsive. The apartment is quite large for NYC standards, and it is extremely clean and beautifully decorated. There is a full size refrigerator and full size stove (unheard of in Manhattan!) and plenty of room to either relax and lounge or to work at the two desks. There are large windows at both ends of the apartment (again, fairly unusual) and a lovely street view.
The only practical matter that deserves mentioning is that this (being NYC) is a 5th floor walkup. This means that you traverse 65 steps down and up every time you leave the apartment. I assure you that it is completely worth it, but if you are older or have very bad knees or tend to travel with excessive amounts of luggage, this should be a consideration. That said, the stairway is very wide by NYC standards, so carrying our luggage was not much of a challenge.
We spent five days here and were upset that it had to end. I did a ridiculous amount of research before booking and would have to say that I consider this to be the absolute best value in the city.
I loved this apartment so much, it was clean, comfortable, cosy and warm. The location is PERFECT! so close to the subway, some great restaurants very close by and food shops. Angelica and Andreas were the perfect hosts. Very kind and generous. It felt like home. I would definitely like to stay there again. And a lovely surprise - i have made 2 new friends out of this trip. Highly recommend this apartment.
We enjoyed our stay at Angelica's apartment. It was cute and cozy and has a lot of character! Although we did not have the opportunity to meet Angelica in person, it was very easy to communicate with her and she was available to answer any questions we had instantly. The location is excellent, a lot of dining options and shops. Glad we stayed here!
Angelica was a wonderful host, we could get hold of her easily and she was always willing to help. The apartment is very central and close to the subway. Lots of shops and restaurants close by.
The place is very clean and comfortable. The location is perfect, just around the corner from the 1 line and convenient to many restaurants and retail shops. I did´n get to meet Angelica, but she was easy to reach by phone or email and always made sure we had all we needed. I would definitely stay here again.
Location!, Location!, Location!
Angelica's flat is perfectly located in Amsterdam Ave in the Upper West side, two blocks back from Central Park and one block away from Broadway and the subway, which is extremely easy to use. The apartment was clean and cosy with a plenty of natural sunlight. There are excellent restaurants immediately below the apartment.
Very nice apartment and location, angelica is very nice and I had a very good experience there.
