Fabulous time at the little Charlotte cottage!
Really enjoyed our long weekend here. So peaceful.
We hiked nearby, had great breakfasts at the cottage, walked the dirt rd to the covered bridge, skied some mountains that aren't far of a drive and generally had an great time.
The cottage had everything we needed and nothing we didn't.
So creatively put together with beautifully crafted vintage tables, chairs and other great pieces throughout. The artwork was also amazing, very inspiring.
It snowed one night of our stay and we awoke up to an amazing display from Mother Nature. Took an early walk down by the river for sunrise and it really was a beautiful scene.
Thanks again Janie.
Thanks Robbie, you two were great guests -- come back sometime!
My fourth time staying here was like the first two: warm, peaceful, lovely. In any season, this is a beautiful spot.
Staying at Janie's remodeled studio definitely felt like a retreat. An attractive open space, seemingly away from things and yet 15 miles from all that Burlington has to offer. Artist's touches are apparent and the kitchen in particular is really well done. Shop for food, you'll want to stay in and cook! The bathroom is fine, but when it is finished the place will be that much better. Very good experience.
We had a really wonderful weekend staying at this great rustic country retreat. We were comfortable sharing the space with our 2 adult sons. We all enjoyed the art and antiques, being able to cook together, and exploring the beautiful property and surrounding area. We all relaxed and rejuvenated.
Janie was an incredible host and her country retreat is spectacular!
Leading up to our stay, Janie was very friendly and speedy in responding to our questions. Upon arriving, we couldn't have been happier with the cabin - well equipped and thoughtfully put together. A perfect spot to relax - we spent one day enjoying the space and the grounds and our second day exploring farther afield in Burlington and beyond. We're looking forward to coming back at another time of year to see Vermont when it's a little warmer and greener outdoors.
We had a lovely stay at the cabin. Janie was friendly, communicative, and available if needed, but we did not actually see her at all. The cabin is very private with lots of land, which was just the retreat we needed. All the basics were provided: nice soft towels, bed linens, kitchen basics, etc. As you can see from the pictures, the place is beautiful.
Wonderful, wonderful stay. Highly recommended.
Our stay at Janie's retreat was nothing short of magnificent! Upon arrival in the early evening we found a table setting for two with wine glasses ready for us - Janie knew we were planning on staying in to cook on our first night and that we were celebrating our anniversary. It was the sweetest, most unexpected touch and made us feel so special! There were also two clean set of towels provided for us and Dr. Bronner's soap near the bath area, which we did not expect but appreciated very much! Janie had a very extensive and helpful guide for the space as well as local suggestions for food, music and more. Had we arrived without plans we wouldn't have had any trouble filling our calendar thanks to all of the wonderful information provided to us.
The space itself is incredible and much larger than we expected. It's decorated with amazing art and rustic, unique antique items. We slept in the loft space both nights which was extremely comfortable and cozy. The entire space was heated and well insulated despite the below freezing temps outside. Being able to adjust the temperature as we pleased was great because at night it did get a little warm up in the loft if we didn't remember to turn the heat down a little. The water ran hot in both the kitchen sink and the bath, the bathroom sink did not but that was no problem, we just washed our hands in the kitchen sink. The bath tub has a low ceiling above it so if you are tall like we are you won't be able to stand up all of the way but that didn't bother us at all (website hidden) in the kitchen was very lovely, and the majority of our time was spent reading, writing and listening to music and just enjoying the peaceful ambiance in our surroundings. We had more fun relaxing in Janie's space than we did traveling into Burlington to explore!
Our stay felt far too short, and we already plan on returning but this time for more than two nights so we can really take advantage of the relaxation and comfort that this place has to offer. Thank you SO much, Janie! You made our weekend unforgettable!
Loved, loved this place! It was a beautiful, tranquil spot that was so carefully curated and appointed. I had a girlfriend come up and join me. We both were transfixed by the spell of the place - including the comfy beds - she on the main floor and I was up in the loft and the claw foot tub.
Janie was great to work with - responsive to our questions and checking in on us. There was fast wifi, which helped with our work demands over the week-end.
This is a special place and I look forward to going back!
We really enjoyed our stay at Janie's beautiful house in Charlotte. Janie was an excellent host, answered all of our questions and was prompt and informative in all of her replies. We found her house to be exactly the kind of relaxing, peaceful setting we were looking for while still close to Burlington and other fun activities in the area. The space was exactly as advertised and we are definitely looking forward to returning to Janie's house in the future.
Janie is a smart, well-traveled, gregarious friend—a Picasso scholar!—and a solicitous and welcoming host. She generously shares the history and ambience of this former painting studio in the country, built in the mid-1980s by the artist Wes Disney. Nothing pleases her more than to hear from guests that they "get" the spirit of this little house, imbued with an artistic sensibility and displaying many unique objets. Janie provides extensive information on local attractions and lets you discover for yourself the meditations possible in the surrounding meadow and woods, as well as in the artifacts on the walls and shelves indoors. Both this house and this host have soul!
I am the lucky niece of Janie and have soaked up her love and amazing creative energies for, ahem, over three decades. I have also been lucky enough to spend many days and nights in Janie's country retreat. The place--both indoors and outdoors--is magical. It is a true getaway, peaceful and energizing all at once and a quintessential Vermont stay -- in all seasons. You even go through a covered bridge on the way out there (from Burlington)!
