Loved, loved this place! It was a beautiful, tranquil spot that was so carefully curated and appointed. I had a girlfriend come up and join me. We both were transfixed by the spell of the place - including the comfy beds - she on the main floor and I was up in the loft and the claw foot tub.
Janie was great to work with - responsive to our questions and checking in on us. There was fast wifi, which helped with our work demands over the week-end.
This is a special place and I look forward to going back!
We really enjoyed our stay at Janie's beautiful house in Charlotte. Janie was an excellent host, answered all of our questions and was prompt and informative in all of her replies. We found her house to be exactly the kind of relaxing, peaceful setting we were looking for while still close to Burlington and other fun activities in the area. The space was exactly as advertised and we are definitely looking forward to returning to Janie's house in the future.
We had a wonderful time in Janie's Vermont cabin. The property was beautiful, private and you could hear a babbling creek from the front door. There's plenty to do in the area, even when it's freezing outside, and I definitely recommend exploring the Vermont brewery scene! The cabin was cozy and quirky and Janie provided us with plenty of useful tips to make ourselves more at home.
Janie's cabin is very cozy and authentically rustic! It was perfect for two days in Vermont. The kitchen was perfectly sufficient (although no hot water from the sink) and we were able to make ourselves dinner. The bathroom is small, but cozy, with a bathtub (the hot water works in the bathtub!) and we had a really relaxing stay. Thanks Janie!
Thanks (email hidden) apologies re the water in the kitchen! A new water heater and a water softener will resolve the hot water issues very soon. Please come back sometime!
What an absolutely lovely place!
A much needed retreat and rest is exactly what we got. Rustic charm, beautiful location and warm cozy feelings are the memories I will keep of the 5 nights we spent here. If you want to get away and relax, this is the place to stay!
Wonderful, as always.
Thanks Gabe, good to have you back!
Absolutely beautiful cottage! We had the most wonderful weekend there and were able to switch off almost immediately. There was lots of snow prior to our arrival which made the drive in from the highway a little bit more challenging in our rear-wheel drive car but not impossible. We just drove very slowly! I would like to come back at another time of the year and explore the property.
We had a great experience at Janie's cottage in the woods. It was an easy drive for us to both Middlebury and Burlington. Janie was very attentive and responsive to us, even though we never actually met her. The cottage was as advertised, clean, neat, fun and beautiful. We def recommend this as a great place to retreat from the busy city!
We didn't actually meet Janie during our stay but had no problems checking in / out as she had provided us with instructions prior to our arrival. Janie was great at responding to messages and made sure we had everything we needed. The place was just as described and we had an amazing time - definitely recommend!
We absolutely loved staying at Janie's house. It's in the perfect location, with pine woods and a stream right in the backyard and a covered bridge a quarter of a mile down the road. The house itself is so wonderful that we spent our entire three-day stay talking about the logistics of eventually building an identical house for ourselves! There are wonderful things to explore in any direction. We loved sleeping in the very comfy bed in (aahhh) total silence! Janie was available the entire time but was never intrusive and left us in total privacy.
Janie is a smart, well-traveled, gregarious friend—a Picasso scholar!—and a solicitous and welcoming host. She generously shares the history and ambience of this former painting studio in the country, built in the mid-1980s by the artist Wes Disney. Nothing pleases her more than to hear from guests that they "get" the spirit of this little house, imbued with an artistic sensibility and displaying many unique objets. Janie provides extensive information on local attractions and lets you discover for yourself the meditations possible in the surrounding meadow and woods, as well as in the artifacts on the walls and shelves indoors. Both this house and this host have soul!
I am the lucky niece of Janie and have soaked up her love and amazing creative energies for, ahem, over three decades. I have also been lucky enough to spend many days and nights in Janie's country retreat. The place--both indoors and outdoors--is magical. It is a true getaway, peaceful and energizing all at once and a quintessential Vermont stay -- in all seasons. You even go through a covered bridge on the way out there (from Burlington)!
