I had a really good time relaxing around and doing day hikes in the Great Smokies as the retreat center was conveniently located near a few scenic trails in the park. The house has an area for meditation and on the window you can see a great view of the mountains which I found perfect as I was doing my yoga practice.
Jeff was accommodating, he toured us around a great lookout and did a bit of hiking with us despite his busy schedule. He gave me maps for my hikes and also went out of his way to fetch and bring me to Knoxville which I appreciate.
The only comment I have is that I think the kitchen and front porch could have been more organized. There was an abundance of food and other things which was good but I'm just personally more at ease and comfortable in a place where things are shelved and classified. But again that's a personal preference. All in all, I'm fortunate to have found this place as it was logistically convenient for my day hikes.
Wonderful place. Directly adjacent to a great stretch of the Smokeys (ranger's post is a 15 minute walk from the dorm)--the air is better, the water is better, everything was just great. No cell phone reception is a huge plus for those looking to disconnect for a bit and there's internet if you need to be in touch with the outside world. Can't wait to come back.
I really enjoyed my stay at this retreat house! I was able to hike in the smoky mountains, enjoyed the seclusion, and everyone I met was very friendly. The dog was very friendly as well.
We has a very nice stay at the retreat!
The place was very quiet and very convenient as we came to ride the Tail of the Dragon.
Sam was here to help us with all the details, and even cooked us some breakfast!
Just keep in mind that there is no close place to get dinner or breakfast.
Beautiful home in a beautiful environment. Great atmosphere! We didn't meet the host but everything was well arranged and ready for us when we arrived. I would definitly recommend this place to others!
Everything was clean and orderly upon arrival and overall stay at MOCD was very enjoyable. Will be returning!
My partner and I stayed at MOCD for 4 nights during the leave season. The location can't be better for us. It is quiet and peaceful. Very natural setting. We had considered Gatlinburg before we found this. We are soooo glad that we didn't stay in Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. that'd be a disaster. Chris and Steve were the hosts when we were there. They are very friendly and helpful people. The house has all amenities we need, especially all the cooking utensils. It is set as a Buddhist retreat center. It suits us very well as my partner is a Buddhist and I'm very fond of Buddhism. Overall, it is a great experience!
Secluded, quiet, fun drive to destination. I would stay here again.
The land here was very beautiful. The owner's dogs were friendly and slept on the porch. The grad student there was also kind to us. It felt strange to stay here as guests when we had to walk through the meditation hall to get to & from our room, sometimes when others were performing ceremonies or sitting. The owners allowed our dog to sleep in our room, which I was thankful for.
My host was welcoming and showed me around the property, which was lovely and remote - just what this traveller needed! I slept more soundly in the bunkhouse than I have in awhile - only sounds of nature to bring peacefulness.
I wish I could've stayed longer, and gotten to share in conversation over meals, so I may have to return soon!
Very nice person. see you next time. Recommended.
Great couple clean and respectfull. They will be welcome any time.
Samten was an easy guest, and I'd gladly have her back.
