I designed and built my home and enjoy sharing it with others.
I was very happy that I chose Turtle Ridge Mountain Retreat! Meno helped me to feel right at home, and I slept great! If you don't mind the windy narrow road, it's worth it just for the view! I will definitely come back!
Great stay! Unique area and awesome and clean room. One of the nicest and quietest sleeps of my life.
Best night's sleep ever! At the last minute, I decided to break up my drive south and stayed one night at Meno's Turtle Ridge Retreat. The accommodations were very clean, very comfortable and very private (basically the whole upper level). Meno was so gracious. Turtle Ridge truly feels like a retreat.
Best place to stay. Well traveled host. Beautiful place. Mountain views.
I had a wonderful time at Turtle Ridge. The setting is beautiful: Meno's home has the sort of idiosyncratic, harmonious and comfortable elegance that could only come from having been designed, built, decorated and lived in by a thoughtful and sensitive inhabitant. Meno is a great host--kind, friendly and intelligent. I am very grateful to have found my way to her home and made her acquaintance.
Driving from Northern Ohio to South Carolina, we were looking for a halfway stop that would be more memorable for my kids than a random hotel room, and Meno's place was an A+ find. The house hand-built by Meno and her family, one piece at a time, and sits on the side of a mountain with beautiful views of the area and access to a great little pond, and kid-friendly woods. Everything was perfectly clean and comfortable.
Meno was an outstanding hostess, great for fun, sharp, insightful conversation with my wife and I, and treats, smiles and fun suggestions for things to do for the kids.
Cannot recommend this highly enough if you're in the mountains of WV and looking for a great place to stay. Experiences like this are really the best of what airbnb can be.
We had a great stay at Meno's house. The location is really nice, with a full 360 degree view on nature and the great mountain-range. Meno was a very sociable host, we had some great conversations about the culture and politics of the state.
We arrived at Menos house around 6 pm and (really dumb) did not read the description on airbnb well enough to realize that the small dirt-road leading to her house should probably not be driven at night in the dark. When Meno heared that that meant we would not have food for dinner, she even made some dinner for us!
In the morning she made sure there was coffee and made some delicious home-made muffins for us!
All in all we had a really great stay and Meno was an extremely good and interesting host.
Meno was simply a delight. A GREAT house in a lovely scenic location, combined with a funny, fun, and interesting and engaging hostess equals an ideal Airbnb experience. STRONGLY recommended to anyone passing through the area.
Meno's is a fabulous, quirky, bright house with wood stove, on an isolated south-facing ridge with amazing views. The guest rooms and bathroom are on the 2nd floor and private. She generously let us use her kitchen, too! We had a great evening chatting. The access road is steep and narrow, as she'd warned, and best handled during the day. What an amazing place and a great stay -- thanks again!
We made the reservation the night before and told her that we might arrive at 10:30pm and she was completely understanding. Luckily, we were able to stop by at 5:30pm when it was still light out since the 7 minute drive up the hill is not for the feint of heart. Don't get me wrong though, we did the drive in a Camry and it was fine but there is a somewhat steep hill to drive up.
The drive was well worth it as the house sits atop a hill with incredible views of the mountains and valley below. The three bedrooms are up on the top floor, all with mountain views. The full bed was not only comfortable, but had a built in digital heater. The futon in the second bedroom and the twin bed in the sunroom were perfectly comfortable (just be aware that the sunroom has no curtains, not that privacy's a problem but if light bothers you, you may want to bring an eye mask).
The bathroom was clean and modern with a whole menagerie of hotel soaps to choose from. She provided us with large, comfortable towels (much better than standared hotel towels).
The best part though was chatting with Meno over a light breakfast of cantaloupe, cranberry muffins, and coffee. We only wish we could have stayed longer and enjoyed her porch, hammock, and pond. If you're anywhere near Princeton, don't miss staying with Meno!
Meno was a wonderful guest. I wish she could have stayed longer.
Very easy to talk to and be with. Very considerate about her arrival times, etc. and very neat and tidy. I can't wait to visit her when I travel back east.
Meno was an easy guest. She's friendly, quiet and self-sufficient. I genuinely liked her and we had what I thought were friendly conversations and smooth interactions. However, she surprised the heck out of me by leaving a negative review of me as a host and has not responded to email. I'm sincerely baffled what her expectations as a guest are/were.
Meno's home is legendary for good times, good music and good food. In the hills of West VA, this setting is very relaxing and comfortable.
