My name is Kate, and I'm a social studies and English teacher from the mid-west region of the United States. After a fantastic and fun-filled wedding in Louisville, Kentucky (home of the Kentucky Derby and the Louisville Cardinals - two great things), my husband and I packed up and moved to Lublin, Poland, where I'll be working until June. Though I'm looking forward to returning to the United States and sharing my experiences with my future students, I've had an amazing year full of making friends, exploring my Polish heritage, and (trying) to learn the Polish language.

I tell you this because who I am as a teacher is very much who I am as a person. I travel as much as I can because I believe it's important to be open to new people and new experience - I believe it makes me a better student and a better teacher. Oh dear, this sounds a bit like I'm applying for a scholarship to study abroad...

Here are some fun facts about me. I can speak really bad Chinese but can cook a pretty mean Chinese meal with the right ingredients (perhaps the most important thing I learned while living outside of Chongqing). I love dogs - we had to leave ours at home this year - but Polish dogs seem to hate me.

As a guest, you can expect me to clean up after myself (my husband can tell you all about my battle with our apartment's dust bunny army). Since I'm used to teacher's hours, I'm usually pretty quiet in the evenings, and since my husband is a night owl, I'm quiet in the mornings. I guess you could say I'm a quiet house guest. Since I'm a bit of a "fly by the seat of my pants" traveler, I'm always happy when I meet people who give me great advice about places to visit and things to eat (eating may, in fact, be my third favorite thing in the world other than teaching and traveling).

Looking forward to meeting you and to exchanging travel tips! Though I can't join Airbnb as a host this year, we're always up for showing friends around Lublin!

*Please note: I CANNOT speak Spanish fluently (though I wish I still could). I did list it, though, because I am pretty affective with the Spanish I can still remember. I've conducted a couple of parent teacher conferences entirely in Spanish with only a moderate amount of confusion on either side.
