Alessandro was very friendly and polite, and tremendously great in communicating beforehand the journey. He informed me proactively about arrival time etc, and made my life as a host very easy in this regard. It was very nice to meet him and all his friends who came for the weekend in our apartment.
Only after their departure it was for the first time in my two years as a host, that I felt somehow really shocked regarding the state of kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms. And felt it had not been treated in a respectful way.
In the kitchen were reminders of food, dirty dishes, spilled food in the fridge and cake smeared on the floor, some of the beds full of chips crumps all over and inbetween, and the toillettes .
When I told Alessandro about my experience with this situation, because people from different cultures can have very different ideas and views about things, and should talk about any differences, he answered the following:
"I'm sorry but we were seven men and I can not manage the whole group. We have not broken anything, but only left the kitchen a little dirty. [...] The cost of cleaning have already been paid."
His answer actually was, what disappointed me the most. Of course he is right, they did not break anything. Only I understand airbnb as a credit of trust to guests to whom I entrust my home, and believe in them treating it with respect.
I am sorry about the gap in how we both perceived this. Especially because I met Alessandro as a very friendly and respectful person.
