Perfect Place for back packing travelers, fun, beers and very friendly staff. Make sure to bring ear plugs or stay up late. :-)
Didn't meet Verity - or at least we were never introduced to her - but we met the 3 brothers that own the bar/hostel together and our stay was nice enough. Room is a little bit worn - curtains needed some work and the door didn't seem all that secure but overall it met our expectations. Very loud music until 3am Fri/Sat night so great if you're a night owl. Connected/private bathroom was a plus as well as easy access to all of the major tourist attractions.
I can't recommend this place enough.
If you are looking for an experience in Istanbul, this is it. The staff is superb, the location is spot on and the prices are very competitive if you compare it to others places.
I stayed there with my girlfriend and the trip was so much more enjoyable by staying at Happy Hole. The only downside I can think of is the loud music in that street but that's the price you pay if you want to be in the most interesting road the old town. The music is of good taste though ;)
I already miss these happy people at the Happy Hole! It truly is a Happy place and the staff is awesome. Thanks guys!
The hosts were very hospital. The room is basic but clean and all necessary things were available.
However it was VERY loud in the night as hostel is situated in the street of night bars and above the bar.
Also the biggest problem for us was the following: that address that we had received after payment was incorrect, phone did not respond, so we had to spent about 1,5 hours in the street in the nighttime waiting for call from the host.
location wise is perfect for first time traveler to istanbul. it's like less than 10 minutes easy stroll from the major attraction in ist (aya sofya, blue mosque, etc). hospitality was superb. Ainush (Hassan's sister) was the sweetest girl. even though she doesn't speak much english, but she was very welcoming and accommodating. (we sometimes chat using body language and translator on my phone). Harun also was very nice and helpful. note that the room was on the 2nd and 3rd floor of a bar, so expect loud music to be played up to past midnight time. i have no problems. the room was on the small side, and furniture was humble and dated, but the bathroom is clean and well functioned.
My friend and I had a great time at the Happy Hole.
The staff was very attentive and friendly. The place is cosy so you'll come across some other guests to share your travelling stories with. It was very convenient to have the bar downstairs when we were too tired to venture around Istanbul. Plus, you get 10% off on drinks if you're a guest at the hostel! The music is loud so you either take part or are a heavy sleeper. ;-)
The breakfast was not our cup of tea but that's mostly due to a cultural difference (we prefer something sweet in the morning). They served us a plate of olives, Turkish cheese, tomato, cucumber and an egg.
If you're looking for a place close to main tourist attractions, good value for money, friendly and fun, I'd definitely recommend it.
The room was great, safe and private, with a real bed and a nice one at that. A/C was great to have. The bathroom was convenient, nice to have to myself and so close. The room also had a refrigerator and tv, neither of which I used. Location cannot be beat!! Ten minute walk to Blue Mosque, Haggia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and the metro. And breakfast is included!
This place is above a bar/cafe and the music goes until 12 or 3 am and it's loud so perhaps not the place to go if you need a quiet place to sleep. However, if you like being in the happening zone then this is a great place. The three people running the place are helpful, friendly and I felt like I had my own resource there for questions. WiFi didn't work in my room so I spent time each evening down sitting (email hidden), drinking wine and watching the crowd of tourists and backpackers, amusing and fun. I'd definitely stay here again. Neighborhood was safe and friendly, 10 minute walk to the water.
So if you're good with some American rock and roll playing at midnight then this is the perfect place.
These guys were great! Fun and friendly.
Room was clean and the bar downstairs is a good place to have a drink.
I think you should split your time between this place and somewhere else in Istanbul because it is a big city. Start with here to see the historical sights.
We stayed in a room overlooking the street. It was great. Everyone is friendly, the room is clean, and check in was easy. There is some noise at night, but this was fine. The location is very close the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque.
