I was very happy to spend a week in Monica's charming studio flat, in a really nice part of Rome near the Vatican. It is spotlessly clean and very fully equipped, with a proper shower-room and kitchenette complete with caffettiera and kettle (the way to any British guest's heart). Everything you require is provided: kitchen towel, plenty of bathroom towels, shower cream, loo paper, and many other useful items. What is more, everything works! (not always the case in Rome). Plentiful hot water in the bathroom (but not the kitchen as far as I could tell) and excellent heating (and air conditioning). Just make sure you are shown how to work it: it is very simple and effective - I hardly needed to use it at all, even in January.
The apartment is within a few strides of the splendours of the Vatican (complete with its own post office selling beautiful stamps) and not far from the stunning historical centre. There is ample public transport, including a metro stop very nearby, which will take you directly to the Spanish steps and the main station. At the same time, the apartment is wonderfully quiet, which is a real boon in Rome. It looks out onto a nice square courtyard, so there is no traffic noise at all, just a few distant sounds of the lift and staircase. I slept very well under a proper eiderdown which kept me very snug.
After a tiny hitch at the start when there was nobody around to let me in, a quick call to Monica solved the problem and thereafter I had excellent relations with my perfectly discreet but friendly neighbour.
There are a handful of quirks which I would like to point out, not bad things but worth a mention. Firstly, the flat is a true mezzanine, with a narrow open metal staircase up to the landing and sleeping area. This is not unusual in Rome but it does require a certain agility in going up and down. Secondly, the lights cannot be turned off from the mezzanine, so you either need to turn on the bedside lamp and come down again to turn off the main lights, or you will have to go up in the dark. Thirdly, the window is big but the glass is frosted. This means that your privacy is assured at all times, but if you want to see outside, you have to open the window. I would add that the flat is not really as bright as the photo suggests: it is nicely but indirectly lit, so if you want brightness you will need to open the window during the day. One other point is the quirky set of keys, including a padlock. Make sure you are properly initiated into the way they work: once you have got the knack, you will be fine. But all in all these are small things when compared with the apartment's many assets, excellent location, and tranquillity.
What a lovely, cozy apartment - really the best possible use of a small space - great for a week in Rome. Five minutes from the Vatican, but set back from the busy streets.
Everything went according to plan. The apartment is small but very high so you have the feeling of space. Kitchen and bathroom ok. Comfortable bed. For a longer stay something to consider is a single window going out to the courtyard and with a "frozen" glass. So you feel a little bit "trapped" during the day. Especially in winter you do not get to see the outside.
The flat is very cosy, clean, confortable and it was a pleasure staying in such a well-designed and fun apartment. The location is perfect, a few steps away from the Vatican and 2 minutes from the metro. Last but not least, Monica's father, who welcomed me, is very charming and welcoming, it was a real pleasure to chat with him about this breathtaking city. I will be sure to stay there again on my next stay in Rome!
The apartment is in a great location in the city centre. It is opposite the bus and train station which is very convenient for the airport bus. Monica was friendly and helpful throughout. Would recommend staying.
This apartment allowed us to experience the culture of Rome. It was clean and had many Italian touches that made us feel welcome and part of the environment. A fantastic location, It was close to many resturants and shopping experiences. We found it easy to get around and Monica's father recommended many places to go and see as well as how to get there. A very private and peaceful apartment in the heart of the city. Has a lovely experience.
Merci.
Grazie Monica!
Monica was waiting and smiling when I arrived, even though my flight was delayed. The flat was excellent, exactly as described. I'd definitely stay again if I went back to Palermo.
After a difficult start to our stay with neither Monica or the owners able to meet us, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Rome. This is a great apartment in a good area of Rome, within walking distance of the Vatican and with easy access to the whole city. The apartment is clean in a typical Rome apartment block but street noise at nights reminded us that we should have taken earplugs!
