Young Italian lady living in Paris, I speak also French, Spanish and basic english. I hope that you will enjoy your stay in this true parisian district!
The apartment is totally secure and safe and super handy to public transport - especially the RER which takes you direct from Gard du Nord train station to within two blocks of the apartment. Buses and Metro stations handy too. Lots of cafes and things in the area (i.e. Pantheon) and Jardin du Luxembourg is literally right there to enjoy especially for some exercise but also just to stroll throughout.
The apartment was clean and tidy when we arrived as to be expected, but host obviously smokes inside so if you're not a fan of cold smoke or incense then maybe not the place for you (it didn't bother us though). The no shower curtain thing was pretty funny but did tend to make the bathroom a wet zone for several hours after each shower. Not a big deal, just odd.
The host was very contactable and accommodating regarding checkin/checkout times and explaining how to get there from the train station.
There were two of us but apparently the couch also folds out, so would be fine for 4 people if you're not planning on spending too much time indoors.
Value of the place: kind of expensive for the quality (the photos are stunning but as with any property it's a little less glamorous in person), however the great location, safety, quietness and accessible host made it worth every cent. I'd imagine it would be fabulous in summer too!
The reservation was canceled 3 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Super nice flat in an extraordinarily charming neighbourhood, very close to Jardin du Luxembourg, nice cafes and a bus line that will bring you directly to Gard de Lyon. The host is very friendly and helpful.
There are two downsides: 1. the host is smoking in the flat. If you don't like the smell of cold smoke, this is not the place you should be renting. 2. there is no curtain in the shower – weird. If you don't care about these two details, you should absolutely go for this apartment.
Maria's place was lovely and excellently located in the city. The RER B is very close and provides quick transit to and from the airport and all of the cities' main attractions. There are also several other stations making transit easy and affordable. On our stay, we decided walk to the Seine (city center, near the Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Pompidou) and were there in no time (20-30 min), so while the train is very accessible, it's not always necessary. The neighborhood felt safe and the building was very well secured. Bonus: you like to run, you'll love the apartment's proximity to Jardins du Luxembourg for a truly gorgeous workout.
Maria gave a very thorough introduction to the apartment and as she promised, the Internet was fast and the hot water was hot! She also has an espresso machine, which certainly helped get our mornings off to a good start. I would recommend this location and apartment.
Maria's apartment's location was perfect for my purpose as I had a meeting at Pierre et Marie Curie Institute campus near Luxembourg garden. Even for someone who has no business nearby I would say the location is excellent since it is easy to get to from CDG and close to the center of the city and so on. The apartment building is easy to find and right next to a Sorbonne building. There are local hangouts for university students and faculty but 10 minute walk will take you to Montparnasse area. I had a little trouble getting in the building but Maria answered the phone and let me in. The apartment is at the top floor and there is a tiny elevator to get you up there with luggage. Inside the apartment, the apartment is of adequate size and looks just as the picture.
Downsides: the furniture is quite outdated. The kitchen didn't look all so clean and inside the dishwasher was quite filthy. There is no shower curtain in the bathroom; though I know many hotels also don't have shower curtain, I could never understand how one can take a shower without flooding the whole bathroom. There was so much stuff in the bathroom and the apartment overall so very little space to put my own stuff.
Overall, Maria's apartment is in a good location and very quiet so one can have a good night sleep but needs a little more organization for space.
Joli petit appartemment, trés confortable , bien situé dans un quartier trés agréable.
Loved the location - quiet neighbourhood, close to many subways and of course very close to the beautiful Luxembourg Gardens. 4 of us stayed for 1 week - very comfortable. Helped to put the cushions under the mattress when using the pull out couch - more support. Handy to have the small elevator for transferring luggage. Not many restaurants opened for dinner closeby. Walked everywhere from here - whether it was the Eiffel Tower, the Marais, the Louvre or the Catacombs. Place looks like the pics. Maria was very responsive and even arranged for a taxi pickup from the airport. Place was very clean.
Prefect location, great host.
Great home-base for our Paris vacation with a 2 year old. The flat is very close to Luxembourg Gardens and St Gemain de Pres area. We took cabs around which was the most time/ cost efficient mode of travel with a kid/stroller, etc. but the flat is very conveniently located if you want to walk or take public transport. Located in a quiet and safe neighborhood, we loved the 2 parks with children's playgrounds right across the street.
The flat was small (I think typical for Paris) but clean and has a lived in feel - like another reviewer had said, feels like you are staying with a friend. Maria lives there herself when the flat is not being rented so keep that in mind.
Would definitely consider this space again and would recommend to others.
