A multilingual expat American, I've lived in West Cork about 12 years. I own and run my own contemporary art gallery and am slowly building a garden.

We had a fantastic stay with Catherine at her home in Glengarriff. Her house is even more beautiful than the photos can show, and the surrounding area is without a doubt one of the most beautiful settings in Ireland. Catherine is a lovely hostess and took great care of us. The guest bed and bath are super comfortable, and the place really feels like a home away from home. I really wish we could have stayed longer! I highly recommend this listing for anyone who is seeking a quiet, peaceful stay in Cork with a wonderful hostess.
Great architecture in great landscape and such a caring, lovely hostess. What you get is even more beautiful than what you see in the pictures. The room is big with the light coming in from two sides. Very comfortable bed and a private bath. The walls of the house are full of contemporary art. The garden is huge and a joy to look at. The view from the sitting room couldn't be more spectacular - I could have spent all day sitting there looking at the mountains and the valley and listen to one of Cathrine's CDs. The TV room is also a library with lots of great books and DVDs. If you are looking for a very quiet and relaxed place, this is it. Cathrine provided me with expert information not just on the area but also about the rest of Ireland and lent me walking maps covering the many paths and loop walks of Glengarriff which can be joined right from the door step. The Beara Way can also be reached within a few minutes' walk from the house. I can wholeheartedly recommend to stay at this very special and fine place - you will surely be stunned. Thank you, Cathrine for making me feel so welcome. I hope to be back soon.
There are no words which describe how beautiful it is at Catherine's home. It's like being in an other world. A world where time seems to stand still. Hecticness and trouble far away and unimportant.
Thank you Catherine that I could be a part of your paradise.
I had three days - nights at Catherine's place. Her contemporary house is in a stunning location and is beautifully designed and laid out. My room was huge and very private.
Catherine is a generous and warm host and helped me plan my wanderings through the Beara Peninsula. She has a thorough knowledge of the local region and its various features and attractions - very useful!
(And her dog Sarah was good company too!)
Staying with Catherine was fantastic. She keeps a beautiful home that has stunning views from every window. There are tons of scenic places to explore close by. I really enjoyed our conversations and am so grateful for all the knowledge she provided about the area. Wish I could have stayed longer!
Great place to stay at! Catherine was a very generous and helpful host. Catherine's place truly is in a green paradise and is made for comfort and relaxation. Highly recommend.
Catherine (and Sarah, the inquisitive and adorable Boston Terrier) is a most gracious host. Her home is beautiful, and combined with the location is most certainly a slice of paradise. Catherine is very knowledgeable about the area and is full of tips to help make your visit to the area truly special. We really enjoyed our stay, and highly recommend staying Catherine during your visit to this part of Ireland.
I visited Catherine's home as a weekend writing retreat . Her house is beautiful, and its architecture is designed to highlight the spectacular forest surroundings. I had my own large room with a desk and several chairs for reading in. Her home is decorated with care and style, and the nearby walking trails are well worth checking out. I rode my bike both over to Bantry and down the Beara Peninsula, and her house was perfectly situated for that kind of exploring. I found some much-needed quiet there and got a lot of good writing done. Catherine was an extremely welcoming host who also let me do my own thing. I would definitely stay here again!
Catherine's house is simply stunning. The window front allows a spectacular view over the forest and the montains. And since Catherine loves beatiful things the house is decorated this way. It is very quiet and hence is a great place to relax from diverse day trips to the environment (Kenmare, Ring of Kerry, Ring of Beara, etc.). You can also watch television or DVDs or connect to the internet via WLAN.
Catherine is a wonderful host. She is vey kind and helpful with anything. I would always be more than happy to stay there again.
I have had the best time staying at Catherine's lovely home. The house is modern, quiet, bright (even on rainy days) and spacious. The art on the walls and the views of Glengarrif Woods and the Caha Mountains are in themselves worth the stay. Add to that Catherine's kind and caring presence (think hot water bottle when you have a cold), her knowledgeability on art, many kilometres of walking paths and there's the perfect place to spend a week. Or two.
My room was very large and it had a huge bed (American king size), two comfy chairs and a desk. There was wifi and I could to listen to Catherine's cd's, watch tv and dvd's. There is hardly any mobile coverage, but I was allowed to use the land line.
Glengarriff is the nearest village, about 2,5 km away. It has shops, pubs and of course Catherine's contemporary art gallery. Her house is right on the edge of the Glengarriff Nature Reserve, so there really is no need to travel anywhere once you've arrived at Catherine's home. But if you really feel you need to: There's a lot to see in the area, from towns like Kenmare and Bantry to remote peninsulas like Beara and Sheep's Head.
I'd happily return anytime!
Catherine is a smart, sassy person with a great sense of humour, but above all she is considerate, kind and a wonderful host. Her standards are high and the house is beautifully designed with spacious dimensions and acres of natural light. It sits in an elevated position with views over an old oak wood nature reserve, looking out over the Caha mountain range. Here you will find a natural sanctuary, a lift for the spirits, and good creature comforts.
Catherine is a great hostess with a great sense of humour - a cultivated lady who can engage in lively discussions on just about any subject, but can sense when you would like quiet time. The unspoiled view of the forested hills from her fabulous house is a rare treat at an exceptional price.
