We absolutely loved our stay at Jacqui&Randy's cabina! It was our favorite of our 3,5 week trip through Costa Rica. The cabina was wonderful, it has everything you need: A little kitchenette, a bathroom, two terrasses (front and a little one in the back), a hammock and a soft bed and good pillows! The dirt road to the cabina is definitely 4x4 material, but very doable. And the amazing view over the mountains and Pacific Ocean is worth it!
Uvita is a great place, there is so much to do in the area. Jacqui and Randy can give you lots of tips and options, but the area is great for some self-exploring too. We can recommend Nauyaca waterfalls and the many beaches.
Jacqui and Randy were at the main house at the time, they were very helpful, friendly and we had so much fun with them. We had a wonderful time at their cabina, it felt like we stayed at an old friends place. In the end, we stayed at our new friends place :)
The views from the property were great- we loved sitting out on the back porch reading and enjoying our coffee in the mornings. The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay, whether short or long-term. The kitchen is well-equipped with everything you will need (including a grill), and the bed is very comfortable. The temperature was great at the house even on really hot days. We were able to see some awesome thunderstorms each night as it was the rainy season. The hosts provide a cell phone during your stay which was really convenient- we used it several times to check in with Trina, the property manager, as well as to contact the Uvita tourist information office and the company we used for our snorkeling trip. Trina was warm and friendly and very attentive whenever we had any questions or issues. Unfortunately there was an issue with the septic system (due to no fault of the owners- roots grow quickly in the jungle!) and Trina came as soon as we called. It was discovered that a tree root had grown into the pipes so one of our toilets was out of commission for a few days. The owners were very apologetic and made every effort to accommodate us and ensure a pleasant stay.
Unfortunately we didn't see much wildlife from the house which was a little disappointing, though we were able to see two aricaris on the first morning, and several other pretty birds during our stay. We could hear howler monkeys way off in the distance but never saw them. The house is a great place to observe the many varieties of insects that inhabit the jungle though (don't worry- they stayed outside for the most part! And if not, the geckos take care of this for you.)- but it was fun seeing the giant moths, butterflies, beetles, mantises, etc. Uvita is a good base for traveling to Manuel Antonio and for taking a snorkeling/scuba diving trip to Cano Island, though, and we were able to see sloths, monkeys, crocodiles, sea turtles, rays and lots of tropical fish during our adventures in both places.
While the house is positioned in a beautiful place to view the whale tail, the 20-minute drive (each way) up and down the mountain was a bit daunting, especially since the road is unpaved. Our Bego made it but it was a little scary during the really rainy days. A 4x4 is absolutely essential, especially in the rainy season. The Wifi was also out during the entirety of our stay, which wouldn't have been an issue except we really wanted to stream a few World Cup games- we ended up getting a beer at the sodas and watching a few games which was fine.
Overall, we had a pleasant experience at the house and would recommend it to anyone looking for some relaxation and privacy with a great view.
This is a truly delightful spot to stay! With beautiful ocean views through the jungle and very comfortably and thoughtfully put together, everything you need to feel at home is there. The road to the cabina is definitely a challenge, but doable with 4X4,
I highly recommend Jacquie's sweet cabin!
