The location of the cabin is awesome! Only a 15min walk to the beach as advertised and also very close to Big Sur Bakery, General Store and the Tap Room.
The hosts were great. Scott was friendly, laid back and provided good recommendations for hikes close to the cabin.
The cabin itself is awesome, very private and peaceful. The distant sound of the waves crashing paired with the wind through the trees was just what we needed to make use forget about the stresses of daily life. Gazing at the stars with a beer or glass of wine in hand was the perfect way to relax after a long day of hiking.
One thing to note the water heater is small so the hot water for the shower runs out in 10 minutes. This wasn't an issue for us and Scott gave fair warning, just wanted to make it clear anyone who depends on a long shower.
Sugar Shack was our very first AirBnB experience, and the accommodations, hosts, and location FAR surpassed our expectations!!! The actual space was even BETTER than the pictures (of course, pictures probably couldn't do justice to the 180+degree mountain view from our personal and completely private deck!)
Our hosts made us feel welcome from before we even arrived and throughout our two-night visit. The space is SUPER CLEAN and equipped with everything you could need to cook a romantic meal. Besides the serene mountain wind sounds and peaceful silence (and best view of stars I've ever seen in my life), the BEST part of the Sugar Shack is the LOCATION!
The drive down Sycamore Canyon Rd. sets the mystical and enchanting tone for what the area is like. The directions from Linda and Scott that we made sure to print out in advance were on-point. And Pfeiffer Beach....left us speechless. I am somewhat of a obsessional hunter of 'secluded beaches and coves' and have been to beaches around the world. Sugar Shack is about a 15 minute walk from one of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE beaches in the WORLD!
My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate our third anniversary and left with the magical minds of children and deepened love not only for each other but for the incredible nature around us. Even if relaxing is what you seek, you will leave Sugar Shack feeling renewed, refreshed, alive, and totally 'zenned out'. We are already planning out return and agree staying more than just two nights is what we want!
Pay attention to Linda and Scott's local spot faves: They are speakin' the truth! Big Sur Bakery's pastries are better than that I've had in France---try the Almond Croissant and the Bacon Twist, if they're not already sold out! Cappucinos are grand as well!!
Check out Partington Cove (about 8 miles south of Sugar Shack). We were lucky enough to experience whale sightings multiple times while staying at various places in Big Sur, but the beach trail at Partington gifted us with seeing a mother and baby whale only 150 feet from shore!!!! (Partington has three trails: mountain/waterfall, tunnel to cove (sea otters abundant there), and the trail to the rocky beach. Do them all!
Lastly, our hosts (Linda, Scott, and Natalie) were with us every step of the way...and beyond! Linda contacted me within hours of our departure to let me know I had left behind some very important and well-loved clothing. She generously offered to mail it back to me. We were blown away with the entire experience, space, location, but also it's very evident the enjoyment and pride the family takes in sharing their heaven-on-earth with those lucky AirBnB-ers. They made us feel like a local in a place where we wished we were. Stay here and you will be writing a similar review in a short time.
Thanks for everything Linda, Natalie, Scott, especially the homemade grandola! S A REAL TREE IN THE KITCHEN!!!!
We had such a wonderful stay at the Sugar Shack! It was the perfect place to get away, unwind, and celebrate our anniversary. We really felt like we had our own little slice of paradise! I already can't wait to go back!
Scott and Linda were great and the property was beautiful! The lovely Sugar Shack is the perfect starting point to explore Big Sur. We saw a condor sitting on the beautiful deck the first afternoon we arrived. What an awesome sight! We would definitely book this place again and will recommend this to our friends and family.
Our experience at the Sugar Shack was absolutely perfect. It's a charming and cozy cottage nestled between lush green trees and sweeping hills that lull you into a deep relaxation with every passing breeze...I still feel like I'm there and we left yesterday! Everything about this retreat will linger in the best way possible. We couldn't have been happier with our decision to stay there and look forward to another visit one day.
A hidden gem amongst the trees. The Sugar Shack is a tranquil hideaway with sweeping views and charm to spare. It is the perfect backdrop from which to experience the beauty of Big Sur.
Scott & Linda have made a great little sanctuary here. We had such a lovely time, so relaxing and beautiful. Waking up in the canyon was amazing, 2 nights wasn't enough.
Beautiful location tucked away in Big Sur. So nice to be within walking distance to Pfeiffer Beach. Linda and Scott have a lovely property.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the Sugar Shack! They recently enclosed the kitchen area making it a great comfy one bedroom bungalow. Linda and Scott are great hosts, providing useful information on the Big Sur area.
For anyone looking for a private, intimate getaway in Big Sur, this is the place! Smack in the middle of Pfeiffer State Park, the beach is only a 15 minute walk down the road. Convenient to lots of great hiking as well.
Be aware that there is not internet access or cell service--which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
We had such a lovely, peaceful time at the Sugar Shack. The photos don't even come close to doing it justice. It's a creative and playful space, and Linda and Scott are so thoughtful with all the details. We didn't get to meet Linda, but Scott was friendly and kind, very easy to talk to. Their house is down the hill from the Shack, but it feels totally private. Pfeiffer Beach is just down the road, which is beautiful all day, and especially at sunset. For me, the high point was sitting on the porch at the Sugar Shack with a glass of wine or cup of coffee and just breathing in the beauty.
Scott is my brother-in-law of almost 40 years and for 2/3 of that time he has been under the spell of Big Sur--working to preserve and/or improve the natural beauty of what is surely one of the most incredible pieces of coastline on earth. Fortunately for the rest of us, now that he and his wife Linda have a home in Sycamore Canyon they've made available a meticulously maintained guest rental that offers complete privacy but easy access to the canyon and the beach. Its like staying in a fabulous tree house for grown ups. Thanks for sharing, Scott and Linda.
The Parkers are the most wonderful people you can meet. Linda is very knowledgeable about the area and meticulous about every detail and Scott transformed the property into the piece of heaven that it is. They have carved themselves a piece of heaven on earth! I feel privileged to know them and highly recommend this property.
Hello! I know Scott as my awesome brother-in-law, who is very easy going. We enjoyed our privacy and one of the most comfy beds I've slept in. You can walk down to Pfeiffer Beach and visit the horses on the way. Take in the fresh air and cool ocean breeze. Scott & Linda are the best concierge's in Big Sur as they know the area well and can suggest places to go and the best restaurants around. Great place to get away to!
