I am a doctoral student in Curriculum and Teaching at Teachers College, Columbia University. My research focuses on history and memory, and how to teach traumatic and difficult historical events. Formerly, I worked as a public school teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area, teaching tenth grade English and poetry.
I am half-Japanese and half-Irish and grew up in the greater Los Angeles area. I don't miss California much, as I currently live in Brooklyn (Crown Heights), one of my favorite places I have ever lived. I love walking the neighborhood and being close to Manhattan but able to take a break from it, too.
