I have been an Airbnb host for more than four years .and have met a lot of great travelers who really appreciate and understand New York City.
Basic hotels in this City goes for about $300 per night which you get squeezed into a shoebox room with no windows .
We as New Yorker also pay tremendous rent.
Magali and her boyfriend paid just over $100 per night for this entire one bed
Room apartment ( 450 sq feet).which is in the heart of downtown Manhattan .
I found a lot of time the Airbnb traveler failed to read and recognize that Airbnb apartment are not hotel service room which is the reason why they only pay one third of the (website hidden) Listing was clear it was in the middle of (website hidden) photo was clear that there is no TV or sofa (all These were clearly stated in my photo and in my listing page which Magali failed to notice at the time of booking) it is New York City, you are in the middle of thousands of cars and people =noise.
My check in policy is 2 PM to 12 midnight. magali's flight arrive super late (11pm)and I offered and paid $40 ( which is 3/4 of her taxi ride from JFK to Chinatown ) to pick up keys from a mid point ( in Brooklyn )
Which they just sit in the taxi and took the key and went they go.
That said, I had a friend who is staying over from overseas that night, obviously I was Not in the Halloween party because I was at home waiting to give Magali the house ( Magalis men about me attending Halloween party was totally fabricated )
People could get very spiteful And unreasonable when they don't get what they want.
In this case, my policy clearly state checkout time is at 12 noon. Sadly Magali also failed to read that in my policy . The night before their check out day, I have contacted the both of them via email and texting multiple times , asking them about their flight time and reminding them that their checkout time 12noon . because I had one other couple who have emailed me and interested to book the apartment the same day when Magali leave.
After hours of no response from Magali.
I spent an hour calling Airbnb customer service explaining to them that Magali have not giving me any response in the last 24 hours. Airbnb stuff actually emailed and called her 4 times with no respond ( these are all in the recorded emails)
I am certain her unreasonable review come from her spitefulness that she did not read my check out policy and was trying to avoid answering our phone calls about checking out.
It was inconvenient for her because she has booked 11:30 PM flight.
On the other hand if she would have responded to my calls ( multiple texting and calling )the day before, with time to arrange I might have been able to allow them to stay and leave their suitcases in the apartment.
To make a conclusion about the experience hosting Magali the reasonable guest who did not care to read and understand my apartment setting and policies.
To say to Less ,stressfuland unpleasant!
This is New York city .WE Don't have "space ". Streets are crowd and noisy .please know the cities you are heading. If you're not flexible with these city condition may be the best that to stay at home and watch a movie about NYC.
