Loved my place in Matera! Pietro met us at a piazza, guided us to a parking area then took us to the flat, the place is lovely, it is a cave so a bit damp, but wonderful once we cooked a meal and warmed it up! The courtyard was great for our morning workouts with TRX and the well stocked kitchen accessories allowed us to create wonderful dinners! We found the best gelato in the world near the church of he holy souls of purgatory just above our flat... Try the lavender and Milk.....
The best ever! Pietro also told us about osteria pico for dinner and it was amazing! Matera is a very old city coming back from the ruins, the streets are lovely but at times dirty , when you look past it, the place is magical! We booked for 2 days and stayed 5! Grazie pietro!
Bellissima casa, posizione centralissima, ottima accoglienza. 5 giorni trascorsi splendidamente. Grazie Pietro!
Great location but unfortunately no one lives in this apartment, it’s just for tourists and it is managed by a real estate agency. This should be clearly specified in the airbnb add because the place has no soul. The guy from the agency gave us a map but he didn’t speak English at all so we didn’t get any restaurant or visit information. He had me sign a rental contract in Italian : I didn’t get exactly what it said so it was really frightening. This contract specified a woman name (the owner of the flat) but we never met her.
The place in itself is perfectly located and has a modern design but they shouldn’t talk about the court (the terrace) : what’s the point of it without any furniture ? It wasn’t welcoming at all as no one lives there : dozens of coffee cups but no tea mugs, not even bowls... No internet or wifi… There was a dish washer but no tabs to use it… There’s a kitchen equipment but if you wanna cook, you have to buy salt, pepper, oil, garlic, spices, everything… So obviously, when you stay for a couple of days as we did, you don’t use it. The place is also very humid (carved into stone) and invaded by ants, with, of course, no insecticide spray or treatment because, again, no one ever lives there for real. We would have felt way better in a hotel or a real B&B.
Last but not least, the parking they told us to park our car in was very expensive. They should have warned us that it would cost more than 40 euros for 2 days… Hopefully we didn’t let the car in there for a whole week…

If you want to get the real Sassi experience stay here. Very cool staying in the cave. Just be aware tho that it is very damp considering it is a cave. The plus side is tho that it looks recently renovated. Everything is new and in very good condition. Although we hardly used the cooking facilities it's good to know you have them as an option.and the little outdoor seating area was lovely for having a Bit of breakfast before heading out for the day.
Also know that if you are old or handicapped this night not be the best choice being that there is a lot of climbing up and down involved in being located in the Sassi.
Overall good experience. We even called the morning of to ask if we could arrive a day earlier last minute. We were welcomely accommodated the same day.
A rare find of the perfect location, private and quiet, seconds away from whatever you need.
The apartment is great with a superb kitchen, tasteful modern decor. Nothing is sub-par.
Matera's Sassi are outside the door and so are the beautiful churches, palaces and museums.
To top it all the host Pietro, and his friend Bruno who checked us in are delightful and most kind.
How can one not start planning a second visit?
Thank you Pietro. See you again soon
