Steven was a great host. He made sure we knew all the ins and outs of the area and the house when we checked in. He replaced the wifi router when the old one kept having to be restarted. He bought us a coffee maker and left some of the most delicious coffee I've ever had.
The house is comfortable and warm enough with the space heaters and gas heater when it was super cold out.
We love the location because it's near our office and you can walk to downtown (if you're a walker!).
Steven was a great host. He meet us promptly at the house to check in and the house had nearly everything we needed (no coffee maker). It was in a great location and was a solid home base to explore the city. I would recommend his place to anyone visiting Austin looking for an affordable, low maintenance stay. Go to the white horse bar! Great music and walking distance from the house.
Response from Steven:
Apologies about the coffee maker. I do have one, but moved it for family Thanksgiving and forgot to put it back. It'll be there next time...
I stayed at Steven's place while transitioning to a new job, and it was very convenient and private. Having a full kitchen and on-site laundry was a big plus. Steven was a good host who checked up on us and was attentive to our needs.
Steven is a great host - very easy to work with, thoughtful and honest. We had 4 people, but I could see the space working for 5 just as well.
The location is great, and parking isn't a problem.
Steven had a great place with easy access to downtown and good food nearby. We'll definitely stay here again when we're back in Austin!
We came to Austin for the MotoGP races, and had a blast. The house was perfect - We had 8 in our party, so air mattresses were a must. The house was conveniently close to everything (downtown, restaurants, grocery store etc...) Steven gladly gave us suggestions on where to go and eat, which is a plus since none of us knew Austin very well. Overall A+!!!
Steve was very easy to communicate with and quick to respond leading up to and during our stay. Four of us came to town for a wedding nearby and this worked out very well. Good location near to downtown and all the locations we needed for the weekend. The kitchen was useful for us to bake pies for the wedding and not have to eat out every meal. The house was clean enough, the two bedrooms worked well for two couples. Steve met us with the key with an afternoon check-in and was flexible about the check-out time. All in all a great trip.
We really enjoyed our stay at Steven's Cottage! My boyfriend and I came out to visit friends, and Steven was friendly and accommodating. He came by in the morning to meet us and gave us some great recommendations on bars and restaurants in the area.
The place and clean and very big, it was just my boyfriend and I staying but the place could have fit way more. Would definitely recommend Steven and his great Cottage!!!
The reservation was canceled 2 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
Steven was a great host, very helpful and flexible. We had a couple of changes to the itinerary leading up to our stay including increasing the length by one day. Steven was communicative and responsive and even threw in an extra night for free. The house was convenient and a great deal for 5 people considering the prices for hotels on F1 weekend. We did have two issues. One is that the 2nd bedroom has curtains for doors, unless I misread this was no mention of this and I feel this makes it something closer to a 1.5 bedroom or at least should have been made clear in the listing. The ladies in our crew felt the place could have been a bit cleaner but I would generally consider it to be fine. Overall I would definitely stay again and appreciate Steven's help but the listing could use an update to reflect the curtains for doors.
I am very glad to have hosted Steven in my shared Brooklyn apartment for the last two weeks. A smart, considerate, and self-possessed guy, I learned a lot from Steven about life in Austin, real (AKA not watery northeastern) salsa, and the post-crisis entrepreneurship world in which he works. That said, although we enjoyed several longer conversations, we also found it very easy to go about our business and stay out of each others' way. There were never any unwanted interruptions or inconveniences, the bathroom and common area stayed clean, and we even shared preferences for water conservation in the lavatory, woot! All in all, Steve is an ideal guest: A straight shootin', direct communicatin' and all around cool guy. I would happily host Steven again and feel comfortable leaving my apartment in his (responsible, home-owning) hands).
Steven and his wife have been very nice guests. They are always welcome to come back and as well we want to recommend them as guests in other homes.
I met Steven in the early days of his Black Star Coop. I immediately was taken by his passion for making beer history and his leadership in creating the first member owned brewpub in the world! I got to know him even better while volunteering my design services to the cause. Experiencing his passion for creating a customer experience like no other guarantees his hospitality can only be comparable. He has transformed a home into a place modern, cozy space, perfect for travelers. It is in a great location close to downtown and all the action on East Sixth Street. Not only will you have a quintessential Austin experience in Steven's home but get great beer recommendations!
