Hi! I'm Michael. I read an article in the Sunday NY Times travel section called 'Europe Without Hotels' in July 2010. It was there I learned about Airbnb. Till then I'd been an active Couch Surfer, recently being appointed as a City Ambassador for NYC, hosting & traveling with their service since the summer of 2008. I signed up, and have been enjoying traveling with Airbnb ever since.
I'm also a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who served in Morocco as an Environmental Education Specialist and have since been working with the United Nations. I left the organization in 2009 to pursue my dream of opening both an International Hostel in NYC & a Bowling Center (I'm a USBC League Bowler with a 190 average). I bowl nearly every Sunday night for just $1 a game in Brooklyn. Wanna roll with me?
I read, write, speak, & occasionally teach Arabic, and run the largest Arabic Meetup community in the world (the NYC International Arabic Language and Culture Social Meetup Club / NYCALCC ). I'm honored to be the first non-Moroccan to be named 'Moroccan of the Month' on WAFIN (April, 2006).
As a native New Yorker who has been 'under-employed' for some time, I know how to live cheaply and still enjoy what this great city offers. My girlfriend Natalia and I run THRIFTAHOLICS . There you can find info on how to see Broadway & Off-Broadway shows really cheap, how to get in to special pre-release film screenings, and how to visit most NYC museums for almost nothing - and that's just for starters!
I love showing people around this krazy city! If you're a cyclist, and 'road-savvy', perhaps I can take you on a bike tour of the city, if my schedule permits : )
