I retired in June 2010 after a career in international development with postings in Africa and Asia. My last assignment was in the Horn of Africa (Addis Ababa and Khartoum respectively) as Oxfam Canada's regional program manager from 1997 to 2010. My area of expertise is organizational development. I am intellectually curious, which makes me an avid reader. Architecture and financial markets are two other areas of high interest for me. I enjoy exploring local markets and cooking for family and friends.
Instead of going straight into a standard retirement mode, I decided to deepen my knowledge of the cities that impressed me the most. These include namely Alexandria (Egypt), Hanoi (Vietnam), Istanbul (Turkey), Aleppo (Syria), Cape Town (South Africa), San Francisco (USA), Buenos Aires (Argentina). Each visit provides an opportunity to gain a deeper insight not only in the history and the culture of those places but also in the ordinary life of their inhabitants. In this vein, Airbnb can be a significant asset to realize such an understanding.
My home base is Ottawa, the capital of Canada. I speak French, English and get by in Spanish.
