I worked for more then two decades as a photojournalist covering the region of South Ease Europe for a number of international publications before buying the old schoolhouse on the island in Croatia and renovate it into the small hotel.

The appartment is in a large housing complex close to the centre of Bovec village. Maybe it lacks a bit in terms of an atmosphere, but it had everything we needed and there is plenty of parking space in the complex. The communication with Filip´s assistent in Bovec was fast and easy.
The apartment was really dirty. We found the rubbish with the trash of other people and full of insects. There weren’t towels and the sheets were so small for the beds. The beds were very uncomfortable and there were a lot of humidity in the flat. The neighbors were unfriendly with us.
We didn't meet Filip. Her assistant gave us the keys and promised to bring us towels (we’re still waiting for it). Instead of coming to the apartment to take the keys, we had to spend 30min looking for a place in the outskirts to bring her the keys.
Definitely I did not recommend this place!
Filip was very helpful. The apartment was large and has everything you need but was a little bit dirty and smelled of stale smoke. Very easy walk to town square and set in a beautiful location.
The apartment was as listed, really close to the Bovec city center. We needed to have a phone to call his assistant to get the key, a bit of confusion for us. We didn't have a working phone. There were some dirty dishes in the sink. It was a great place for us though. Loved the warmer in the bathroom after showers.
What's the point in making arrangements about when and where to get the key of a appartement, if you don't live up to them. After a whole night driving, the last thing you need is to wait three hours in uncertainty about when and where you'll be getting a key. Also when we left, no one showed up to pick up the key on the said time.
We stayed two nights in the appartement and every day we've got working man on the terrace which wasn't so comfortable either. In overall you could say we were disappointed and had allready much better airbnb experiences.
We all fantasize go to live outside of a big city in the countryside. Some of us have the courage to realize this and work and live such a life. Congratulations Filip on that success in life :)
Filip is a friend and colleague who some years ago bought an old schoolhouse on a beautiful island in Croatia and has been running it as a small hotel ever since. Filip is an amazing photographer and a wonderful host. I would recommend anyone to stay with him...
Filip is a man you want in a tight spot. I worked as a photojournalist alongside him throughout the Balkans and he was always kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. You will not be disappointed. Highly recommended!
We first saw what is now Hotel Maestral on our first trip to Croatia in 2003. It was the ruins of the school house my husband's father attended many years ago. One year later when we went back to Prvic Luka we were astounded to see that Filip had transformed the waterfront ruins into a fantastic hotel marrying the ancient stone architecture to state of the art modern amentities. We were literally speechless. We go back to Prvic every year and spend many happy hours on the Hotel Maestral terrace, eating breakfast, drinking coffee, or eating dinner. We always recommend that our visiting friends stay there and are proud to say that Filip and his wife Gordana (a gifted jewelry designer) are our trusted friends.
Filip made a smart move when he left behind the blood and guts of crisis reporting to se tup the Maestral. Go meet him. Both he and the Dalmatian coast are definitely worth the trip!
Filip is great guy, he like his job and he turned a passion from photojournalism into a passion to his hotel!
Great host and great person!
Filip and I have been friends for 20yrs and for many years we worked together in the photography industry. He is an extremely trustworthy and creative guy.
Hotel Maestral is on the island Prvić, where I spend my summer holidays every year!
As a travel agent I can tell you that this hotel deserves your trust.
Filip is an old friend and a great guy, don't be fooled by the harsh look in his profile picture :-)
I've stayed at Hotel Mistral and love it! Run, don't walk, to get there a spend a while. Make sure you watch the sun set and eat dinner outside there.
