The house was quite large and there are multiple bedrooms that would make a group stay ideal. The house was clean and the furnishings were basic but practical.
The house itself is set on a tributary of Clear Lake. So it is not on the lake. And since California has experienced a rather dry winter (2012) there wasn't any water at all where the rear dock was located. If a water or boating experience is important to you, make sure that you ask the owner ahead of time what the status of the lake is.
There is a bar and a strip mall on the main road about 200 yards from the house. You can walk there without issue. The neighborhood itself is not really tourist friendly in the sense that there are things to see and places to go. The people you'd have as your neighbors are locals. If you're looking for a tourist experience directly out your front door, this is not your best choice.
We never met the owner, but getting access to the property was easy with the access code they provided.
Overall a solid, basic and practical house.
