Hello all, My name Is Francesco i'm funny and i love nature, wine, cooking and good food!
I'd like to indroduce you in a genuine land of country pleasure and wilderness landscape!
There is a big problem with Le Spighe - You don't want to leave it!
Our cottage was all we could have wished for - cozy, sweet, very clean, fully equipped, full of love and attention - a true delight.
Moreover, it was the pure tranquility of Le Spighe that made it so captivating. Sitting outside, soaking in the lush green fields, the picture-perfect scenery of the surrounding hills, the bird-chirping, the vivid blossoms... I didn't want to tour the area - all I wanted was to sit outside and draw and feel.
Francesco and his family are beautiful people - sincere, nice, thoughtful, interesting, and it is their attention and effort which makes the place such a gem.
I could go on and on with the superlatives and it will still not do the place justice.
Very highly recommended!
Pulito, accogliente, spazioso, ben organizzato. Asciugamani e coperte a disposizione.
Alberi in fiore, piante aromatiche, verde ovunque.
Grazie Francesco, siamo stati benissimo e torneremo presto.
After staying in Rome, Venice and Florence, my sister and I (aged in our 60’s) wanted to spend some time in the countryside. We spent 3 days at one of the lovely old stone houses (I think it was No. 1 San Giustino) on the farm Le Spighe, looking over brilliant green fields, past the vineyard to the hills crowned with small villages and castles. Le Spighe is I think technically in the Lazio region however it is also very close to Tuscany and Umbria. In short drives around the area, we sometimes visited all 3 regions in one day. If you were staying longer, Le Spighe would be a great base for exploring. Orvieto is only about 30 km. away. As it was March and low season, we had the unusual privilege of being the only guests. We stayed in the house furthest away from the main road, and it was very peaceful. The garden is beautifully kept, and home to a number of friendly cats (fed by Francesco and his parents). The cottage was very comfortable with two good-size bedrooms looking over the fields, living area with couch and dining table, a well-equipped kitchen and bathroom with small shower. Francesco and his parents were so thoughtful – fresh milk in the refrigerator, condiments, oil and coffee, and other essentials. We bought good local bread and cheese at the trattoria/pizzeria at Proceno (about 15 minutes drive), otherwise you need to go to Acquapendente for supplies where there is a supermarket. Acquapendente is an attractive old town with a basilica, and is a key place on the Francigena Way which winds through this area. Le Spighe is also a short drive from Monte Rufeno Natural Reserve. As it was low season, much of the reserve was closed and deserted. We had an enjoyable walk through the forest and even saw some deer. We visited the charming village of Proceno and also drove to the large and spectacular Lago di Bolsena. Francesco is a wonderful host; although we were late, he and his father Ilio were there to greet us. His mother Ivana arrived later bearing a tart, and we were given a bottle of their own wine. He, his wife and his parents live in Acquapendente and come to Le Spighe to run the farm which they have owned for many years. Francesco is a most engaging person, with a great curiosity about the world. He was most willing to assist with our rudimentary Italian, and has a very good command of English. Francesco gave us a map of Aquapendente and surrounds with useful information. Unfortunately 2 of his recommended restaurants (including La Parolina) were closed on the Monday when we visited, however we had two excellent meals at the Trattoria al Pugnalone in Acquapendente. We also had a pizza from the pizzeria about 5 minutes up the road from Le Spighe. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here, and it would be even more beautiful in summer. Francesco even...
We had a great stay at agriturismo le spighe. We were welcome by Francesco's father and slightly later Frnacesco came with a small gift. He provided us with information and help.
we really enjoyed our conversation with him and the pleasure to have met his family.
I recommend this place for all those who want a genuine , beautiful and rustic place to stay and enjoy nature.
Francesco is a very very sweet host, very welcoming and generous! The place is cosy, clean and has everything you need! We got a bit lost on our way to the place and arriving after sunset makes it quite difficult to see it! Francesco saw us going by and place and came to get us at the restaurant nearby where we went to ask for directions! We where very surprised and happy to see him there! He was very patient, for we arrived later than we had planned and was still very very welcoming and nice! Thanks again for everything!
From the moment we arrived it was like being with family Francesco and his father welcomed us with open arms, gifts of home made wine, food and plenty of information about the area.
The cottage is very clean and cosy. Francesco provided us with plenty of woods for the fire place to keep us warm and toasty on cold December days. He also collected some fruit from his orchard. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Le Spigne and has no hesitation to recommend to anyone. Thank you Francesco for making our visit to Tuscany very (website hidden) from Sydney
We spent 10 wonderful days at Le Spighe. Francesco was there to greet us, with beautiful home- made gifts and heaps of information on the area. We stayed in the stand- alone cottage and it had everything we needed..... especially heating as it became very cold. We spent days driving through the stunning countryside of Tuscany and Umbria, visting all the villages. Le Spighe is so central. The local town has supermarkets, so you are able to prepare meals in the cottages. There is also an internet cafe. Francesco and his family are so warm and generous and nothing was too much trouble. We highly recommend Le Spighe......perfect!
There is so much to say about our time in Francesco's Cottage. It was absolutely perfect!
Francesco made us feel like family from the moment we got there - he gave us a bottle of wine and his parents had even made us a welcome cake.
The place is itself was very large - we had a lounge room, 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and bathroom in the cottage. But the best feature was the fireplace which we used every night.
We took up all the advice from Francesco about where to go in the area - including wine bars, restaurants and hot springs (which we HIGHLY recommend).
We want to say a huge thank you to Francesco and his family for having us and we can't wait to visit you again.
Francesco is the ultimate host; going out of his way to accomodate our needs. My husband loves Italian cooking so I asked if there was a cooking class nearby. He made reservations for us at La Parolina Ristorante with chef di Iside Romano. The whole experience was fantastic! Highly recommend it!
The cottage is located in a beautiful, yet secluded Tuscan valley with panoramic views in all directions. The cottage is fully equipped with everything you may need. Francesco's mother baked us a delicious pie and we were given a great bottle of homemade Chardonnay. We felt like family and will definitely be back.
Francesco's accommodation is excellent! He is charming, has good communication skills with English speakers and very helpful. Four of us had a great stay here. It was most comfortable and so peaceful. The emails and texts were prompt and efficient. This accommodation is highly recommended.
From the moment we reached out to Francesco here on Airbnb he was very friendly and easy to talk to. He answered all of our questions to the best of his ability. After months of preparation we were delighted when we arrived at his cottage to find out he is just as warm and welcoming in person. After spending two weeks at his cottage we had the pleasure of getting to know him & his family pretty well. He was very knowledgeable about the area and shared some of his favorite places to frequent. We looked forward to spending time with Francesco & the conversations we had. The amount of kindness Francesco showed us was above and beyond… my husband & I were interested in finding a nice leather jacket for him and when we asked Francesco if he could direct us he actually met us in Acquapendente and showed us around the town telling us all about it as we walked. We didn’t find the jacket but we enjoyed every moment of our stay and we feel Francesco was a very large part of making our visit even more special than we had anticipated. We cannot wait to visit again! Much love, Holly & Chris
We were two couples with kids staying in Le Spighe and we have had great time there. This place is perfect for kids as it has large garden and football field, where kids can run around, while you can chillout without being scared kids can be hurt or can get into the street. The place itself is very meditative - the view from behind the house is very nice: a field of sunflowers and typical toskanian hills floating above it. The house and the garden, they way we were met by the host family - we really felt, that Francesco and his lovely family are really with their heart behind it. It was also great to get the feel of authentic, non-touristic Toskany and discover places, few would choose to go to, like Mount Amita, highest mountain in the area with gorgeous view, or picturesque small villages with houses squashing up on the top of the hill.
We had a fantastic experience with Francesco and Le Spighne. His family could not be any nicer and we really loved our stay. Francesco is very professional in all his communication. We were very taken cared for and were given very good information on places to eat and groceries. I highly recommend Francesco and his business and wish him and his family great success. The greatest compliment I could give is I miss it already and look forward to returning again someday. Simone Ellsworth
Words cannot truly express our amazing experience at Le Spighe. We arrived late and after dark but were greeted with a delicious cake and homemade jam. In the morning Francesco arrived to welcome us and give us the lay of the land. The cottage sits on a beautiful piece of land with fruit trees, raspberry and blackberry bushes. Truly luscious land. We cannot wait to go back!
I stayed for a week at Le Spighe in summer 2010. It consists of several fine cottages with lots of outdoor space. The host Francesco is a nice guy who speaks English very good, for those who don't master the Italian language. He takes care of the property and keeps it neat and tidy. He is helpful in any way and will make you feel at home right away.
A nice surprise: During my stay, Francesco and his family invited all the guests for a dinner, with lots of regional dishes and homemade wine. The dinner was fantastic and I got in contact with some of the other Italian guests, thanks to the translation capabilities of Francesco.
It was my first stay in Italy and I couldn't have asked for more, highly recommended!
It's always good to be back at Le Spighe! So I don't recommend it at all, because otherwise it will be crowded and we loose our beautiful and super-holiday!
Francesco always gives us a warm welcome, he is very friendly to our children, they like him a lot. Even now, writing this reference the youngest sees the picture and shout: Oh look, there is Francesco!
Well, that should be enough for this reference!
Great host, wonderful place to stay: thank you, Francesco!
Le spighe is one of the most wonderful place i visited in Lazio. Francesco and his family make feel one of them.
I can't say enough: highly recommended!
Francesco is a very smart and funny person!
He and his family gave us a lots of interesting suggestion about places to visit, restaurant to go and recipes to try.
They has a high knowledge of nature and spent an evening (and a dinner) with them is a very memorable experience!
