Stefan is a very nice host!! His apt is on a great location! His apt is beautiful and big.
The only defect is that it was very very warm!!
Stefan is a very nice person. Apartament was very clean and close to subway and Central Park. I'm very happy that we live there:)
Renee was a very nice person, when I got there he gave me information about the neighborhood, and welcomed me. The apartment was clean and I have no major complaints about anything in the apartment. I would rent from them again. Definitely a good deal.
East Harlem is a must see for experiencing the diversity of NYC. Our hosts made our visit stress free and the flat was more than enough room for the three of us. This is a good place to be if you don't want to feel like a tourist.
Overall, very good experience! This apartment is nice, clean and very close to Central Park. The neighborhood is safe and quiet, although you could hear music from time to time. Stefan and Rene are very friendly, helped us sharing tips about transportation and things to do, and were very accomodating concerning check-in and check-out. No A/C, but fans everywhere. Thanks a lot!
stefan & renee are quick on the spot to greet & share transit/neighborhood tips with you...even accommodating our delayed flight arrival.
Apt is so close to central park and transit that getting out & about is easy.
No a/c could easily be an issue for some, though a few fans are provided.
Neighborhood noise level generally quiet @ night, though not necessarily continuously quiet.
Clean apt, and good base to go out and explore from.
This place was great and just as promised with clean sheets, towels, bathroom, etcetera. And good location--although better to enter from some directions than others. Speak to host about that. I would stay here again.
The reservation was canceled 31 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
This vacation could have turned into a nightmare. Stefan was apparently renting for a friend and all of my arrangements were made with him. However, when I arrived to the apartment at the appointed time, I found that it was not ready for us and the owner told me in no uncertain terms that she would be back and forth to pick up stuff, and that "it is what it is." Then there was only sleeping accommodations for 2 when my request noted that we would be 3. And again, the owner informed me that, "it is what it is." Then she proceeded to inform me not to touch her things from her closet or dresser, as if I might help myself of them. When I told her that I didn't feel welcome at all in her home, once again she told me that, "it is what it is," and proceeded to tell me that she didn't want my "vibe" in her apartment or her building. So, here I am traveling from out of state with 2 young people and find myself temporarily homeless in New York City. Thank goodness I have friends in New York and they helped me out of this dilemma. I don't recommend this apartment at all. Stefan himself was very nice and attempted to reason with his friend to no avail.
So, first arriving and looking for parking I was nervous because the area is borderline in a shady neighborhood. It's not that bad, but if you go the direction of Madison Ave there are projects going on for several blocks, but did feel safe walking down the street the apartment was on and from the central park side. Stefan's friend Rene met us very promptly and gave us the key and showed us around and was extremely nice. It felt relatively cool in there but it was uncomfortable for sleeping. I wouldn't really recommend staying there during the summer with no A/C. They provided fans which helped but when it's that humid they don't help that much; we were sweating unless sitting directly in front of the fan. Hot water took forever to come and the hot and cold were reversed I think. I just got in with it cold after running it for like 15 minutes then finally adjusted them to get it warmer. Bring your own toiletries because there aren't any and I wouldn't recommend going to the corner store for anything so bring stuff with you. Even though we found parking, luckily, it was one street over and one side you can't park there Mon/Thurs from 9-11:30 and the other side it is Tues/Fri so it's a pain if you have to move the car and on Madison Ave there is a school and no parking during school hours on that street so it might be tricky to find within one street of the apartment. Stefan was very flexible with checkout time and met us down where we were sightseeing to get the key after we cleared out stuff out and put it in the car. The location is decent but pretty far from most of the touristy stuff. It was more than 5 minute walk in each direction to the red and green subway lines (if you go to the greenline which is best for statue of liberty area you go by lots of projects) and it was a $20 cab ride down to the empire state building and took forever with all the traffic lights. I slept on the couch because futon wasn't that comfortable and my 2 kids shared the bed. they were very nervous about walking around the area. Probably better for an adult couple and not young kids even though it seems pretty safe. Overall, very clean, nice place in decent location.
