I'll cut right to the chase: this the place you should stay at in Howth; for the room, location, and the hosts.
- Room: The room is a great one in a century-old home. Across the hall from the room is a living room complete with a fireplace, view of the sea, and comfy chairs and couches to relax and hang out in. Downstairs is a kitchen, where Mary will cook you up a delicious breakfast every morning (I lucked out, and my stay fell on Pancake Tuesday). A few of my friends—all who lived in either Howth or Dublin—stopped by a few minutes, and they were blown away by the place as well!
- Location: When you step out of the front door and look right, you see the sea, and this place is within one minute of walking trails that will guide you around the Howth seaside. If you're looking to relax and unwind, the location simply can't be beat.
- Hosts: Unfortunately, my trip to Dublin didn't go I had planned. My second night, I tripped on a steep cobblestone path in the city, and broke my ankle in a couple of places. I traveled by myself from Canada, and the whole ordeal would have been an absolute nightmare—if it hasn't been for Mary and her husband Des. After my first night in the hospital, they both stopped by to bring me chocolate, toiletries, changes of clothes (including ones they bought for me), and to check how I was doing. When I got out of the hospital, they even drove me to the pharmacy, and invited me to have dinner with their family so I didn't have to order delivery or take away. From my first night to my last night in Howth, Mary and Des made my stay memorable, comfortable, and enjoyable, and they're among the kindest people I've ever met.
If you're looking for a place in Howth, this is where you should stay.
Mary's townhouse in Howth was wonderful. She responded quickly to my request. The house is gorgeous and the bed is very comfortable. I had peaceful nights of sleep there. The private bathroom is also more than you could ever hope for. Nice tub plus a shower. Felt very welcome here. Recommended.
Mary is a warm and welcoming host with a beautiful home. I was only there for a short time but I wanted for nothing--a warm fire in two different sitting rooms, steps to the seafront, a lovely breakfast, and a cozy room with a lovely bed, spotless spacious bath, and all the amenities. If my travels ever take me to Howth again I will return. Thank you Mary for a lovely stay!
This is a delightful house - both inside and out - in a great location, and with a view of the harbour from the guest's living room. Mary was very welcoming and provided an excellent breakfast also. The bed was very comfortable and the rooms tastefully furnished. I would definitely book again if/when I can make the excuse to be on that side of Dublin. The house would be a great base from which to walk to the cliff tops, or along the front for great pubs/restaurants.
We had a lovely weekend in Howth at Mary's. She was welcoming and kind, even after we arrived later than planned. Her home is spacious, quiet, and had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend away from the city. The view from the rooftop sitting area is beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. She has great recommendations for nearby things to do and places to eat. We had a great time and will be back if ever in Howth again.
Thank you Angelika, and for the suggestion for the hairdryer, which we now have.
Very nice and friendly hosts in a beautiful renovated townhouse by the harbour of Houth. We were offered delicious breakfast and some really good advice for getting around Howth and Dublin. We would definitely recommend to stay with Mary and her family!
Besides it is the perfect place for walks on the beach, seafood restaurants and still being close to the city.
Mary and her family are all very kind and friendly, always willing to give you good advices about museums, restaurants and such, and they always try to make you at ease. The house is very large and comfortable and the place is also beautiful – wonderful surroundings and seaside; despite the wind, the harbour is the perfect place for morning walks. We're really glad to have chosen to stay here.
