Mary and her husband Desmond were terrific, helpful, pleasant and always available.
The location was superb, extremely nice, absolutely clean. Located directly at the waterfront (habour), very nice Interieur. Mary is an extremely friendly person, great hospitality!
Our stay with Mary couldn't have been better. Mary is very welcoming and happy to offer advice and suggestions. The house is beautiful and spacious. Our room was lovely, but the sitting room we had sole use of, was sensational. It has an open fire and a view of the harbour. We looked forward to the great breakfast each morning. The whole family made us feel welcome while giving us our own space.
Mary is an outstanding host, welcomed me with a hot cup of tea after travel and had lots of maps and helpful tips on local transport and places to visit. The location is exactly as pictured. A very charming home, lovely room with private cozy living room, and great full bath with both tub and shower!! Plenty of privacy. Great breakfast. Howth itself is a charming fishing village and I highly recommend the cliff walk and enjoying some local seafood. Transportation into Dublin is very easy with the Dart rail system or the bus! Highly recommend this stay!
Mary & Des's home is a great place to stay. The photos on the listing do it some justice but in the flesh it is beautifully renovated. They are wonderful hosts making sure I had everything I needed and providing a very nice breakfast and coffee brewing when I walked into the kitchen. The living room beside the bedroom is a standout with the fireplace, the view and a very cool blanket bag that I was coveting.
The house could not be better located to walk to all that Howth has to offer. Recommended.
Thank you Shaun, glad you enjoyed your stay you were a pleasure to have. Hope you enjoy your daughter birthday celebrations!
I'll cut right to the chase: this the place you should stay at in Howth; for the room, location, and the hosts.
- Room: The room is a great one in a century-old home. Across the hall from the room is a living room complete with a fireplace, view of the sea, and comfy chairs and couches to relax and hang out in. Downstairs is a kitchen, where Mary will cook you up a delicious breakfast every morning (I lucked out, and my stay fell on Pancake Tuesday). A few of my friends—all who lived in either Howth or Dublin—stopped by a few minutes, and they were blown away by the place as well!
- Location: When you step out of the front door and look right, you see the sea, and this place is within one minute of walking trails that will guide you around the Howth seaside. If you're looking to relax and unwind, the location simply can't be beat.
- Hosts: Unfortunately, my trip to Dublin didn't go I had planned. My second night, I tripped on a steep cobblestone path in the city, and broke my ankle in a couple of places. I traveled by myself from Canada, and the whole ordeal would have been an absolute nightmare—if it hasn't been for Mary and her husband Des. After my first night in the hospital, they both stopped by to bring me chocolate, toiletries, changes of clothes (including ones they bought for me), and to check how I was doing. When I got out of the hospital, they even drove me to the pharmacy, and invited me to have dinner with their family so I didn't have to order delivery or take away. From my first night to my last night in Howth, Mary and Des made my stay memorable, comfortable, and enjoyable, and they're among the kindest people I've ever met.
If you're looking for a place in Howth, this is where you should stay.
Mary's townhouse in Howth was wonderful. She responded quickly to my request. The house is gorgeous and the bed is very comfortable. I had peaceful nights of sleep there. The private bathroom is also more than you could ever hope for. Nice tub plus a shower. Felt very welcome here. Recommended.
Mary is a warm and welcoming host with a beautiful home. I was only there for a short time but I wanted for nothing--a warm fire in two different sitting rooms, steps to the seafront, a lovely breakfast, and a cozy room with a lovely bed, spotless spacious bath, and all the amenities. If my travels ever take me to Howth again I will return. Thank you Mary for a lovely stay!
This is a delightful house - both inside and out - in a great location, and with a view of the harbour from the guest's living room. Mary was very welcoming and provided an excellent breakfast also. The bed was very comfortable and the rooms tastefully furnished. I would definitely book again if/when I can make the excuse to be on that side of Dublin. The house would be a great base from which to walk to the cliff tops, or along the front for great pubs/restaurants.
