I heard back immediately from the host even though I was asking for a single night of Columbus Day weekend at the height of leaf peeper travel. The inn was lovely, the employees couldn't have been nicer, and the Chef's food was superb!
This Inn is everything it advertises to be, which is remarkable considering they offer a wide range of activities from horseback riding to sailplanes! (The tiny airfield is across the street!) Our reception was pleasant and prompt, and we received help getting a map of some trails we were interested in.
While we didn't take advantage of any of their activities, we did enjoy our stay very much. The room and bed were comfortable and pleasant, the pub was likewise, with good service and offering everything from dinner to tea (we had tea). Dinner in the dining room was delicious and creative, and our server Andre (?) pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was likewise, after a rocky start with an inattentive waitress. A second waitress leapt into the breach with apologies and remedial expedition of our meal. Eggs were great. Coffee was meh by today's standards.
This is a classic new england inn, and well outfitted and taken care of. Their dining room is quite pleasant, with windows all around and central indirect lighting. A lounge offers a fire, comfortable chairs, and a selection of magazines.
Being an old inn, small things like needing to plug in a heater, tweak the radiator or have trouble finding a convenient outlet are to be expected. No TV in our room, which was just fine. Our only difficulty was that the outdoor lights were left on quite late, making it hard to get to sleep until we drew all the shades -- which meant we woke up a bit late the next day. Checkout was a bit draggy, apparently due to a system in need of updating, but not much of an issue. We somehow did not perceive that our rate was MAP, so the meal credit was a nice surprise.
We thoroughly enjoyed The Franconia Inn and would go back any time.
Great hotel, booked last minute, everything was as expected, very beautiful environment there. Lovely breakfast.
We just spent a delightful weekend at the Franconia Inn. While the snow fell quietly outdoors, we enjoyed the warmth by the fireplace in the lounge, relaxed in our well-appointed room and enjoyed delicious meals in the dining room. The service was excellent and every member of the staff made us feel welcome and at home. We will definitely visit again.
We enjoyed staying at this place right next to White Mountain State Park! The host gave us a special rate including great breakfast!
We will come back to this location next time and recommend to others if they want to stay near the White Mountain area.
Nice place to stay and a building with great character within a New England setting. Not far from I93 so easy access to everything around.
