The pictures don’t lie, this home is absolutely gorgeous. We knew that when we booked it, but after being welcomed by Phil and Julie, we sat on the patio, looking out at the Pacific and began scheming up ways to move to Costa Rica. This home was absolutely perfect for the relaxing, beach part of our honeymoon in Costa Rica, it’s luxurious, well equipped, and the perfect spot to stay when exploring the area.
Not only does Casita Brisas have a postcard view, it’s location has great wildlife viewing opportunities be it spotting toucanets searching for fruit in the morning, afternoon visits by the neighboring howler monkey troop or bats fluttering over the pool at night. For those of you frightened by anything with more than four legs do beware there’s a very good chance you’ll encounter something scurrying about the room during your stay, but you are in CR after all so hopefully you’ll appreciate them just as much as the other wildlife.
Santa Theresa is a short drive away (it’s probably best to have a rental SUV if staying here) and offers great dining options and activities, making Casita Brisas perfect for the person looking for a secluded escape as well as the one in search of adventure and time out on the surf.
Phil and Julie were the most hospitable and kind hosts we’ve ever had. They were readily available, knowledgable about the area, and even greeted us with a wedding card and balloons. Between their eye for detail, the wonderful property built by Marshall & Shelley, and Raina’s assistance keeping everything in tip-top shape this probably one of, if not, the best accommodation options in the southern Nicoya region. We traveled for nearly two weeks through CR and so glad we concluded our trip with our stay at Casita Brisas. Hopefully we can return again soon and enjoy the main home with our friends.
Casita Brisas del Cabo made our last few days in Santa Teresa a dream vacation. In person, the casita and the ocean views are better than we could have imagined - comfortable bed, wonderful shower, refreshing pool, fully equipped kitchen, plenty of lounging space, and surrounded by the beauty and sounds of nature. Furthermore, our hosts, Julie and Phil, went out of their way to make us comfortable and relaxed, and provided us with many options of things to do in the area. 10/10 vacation rental - we cannot wait to come back!
Casita Brisas was an absolute dream. The property was absolutely breathtaking, the pictures don't even do it justice. It was the perfect place to disconnect from our normal chaotic high-stress working lives and I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone seeking beauty and relaxation.
Julie and Phil take hospitality to a whole new level. From picking us up at the airport, to making our dinner reservations and arrangements for daytime activities, they made sure all of our needs were always met. In addition to being wonderful hosts, they are also wonderful human beings that we had the pleasure of getting to know on our trip. They are incredibly inspiring and you will leave plotting your next adventure.
It's the perfect rental to escape from it all and still have the 5 star feel and amenities. They have everything you would ever need from a rental. Views are breathtaking, inside and out of the property. Phil and Julie made us feel like family and were by far the most accommodating hosts I have ever come across. Hopefully one day I'll make it back!
Our stay at Casita Brisas del Cabo was all we could have hope for and more. This romanic little secluded perch over looking the ocean was perfect, we didn't want to leave. The accommodations were very clean, comfortable, and luxurious. Phil and Julie were wonderful, very accommodating, friendly, and thought full. We would definitely recommend this place to friends and family.
A paradise in the hills! From the stunning pool to the luxurious bedding to the monkeys, mangos and bananas in the jungle outside, it's hard to imagine a more special place to retreat to.
We booked the house for a family gathering including two small children, and found everything to easily exceed everybody's already high expectations. A few highlights from various members of our group:
-- The physical layout of the house is amazing. The stunning view of the ocean over the infinity pool was gorgeous and relaxing. We could talk together, read separately, and make delicious meals in view of the sunset. The layout was perfect for a group that wants to celebrate and be together, but escape into a good book every now and then too.
-- We loved how you could be outdoors all day, enjoying the fresh breezes and sounds of nature, but not get sunburned or too hot--the carefully-placed outdoor roofs gave you a spot to retreat to when it rained or when you'd had enough rays.
It felt so much like home that leaving was excruciating!
-- The bedrooms were super comfy--great showers, comfortable temperatures, nice linens, roomy beds.
-- Phil and Julie, who take care of the home, are astoundingly gifted hosts and made us feel so well-taken-care-of. They steered us toward a fantastic fish market, helped us with the complicated trip back to the airport, and even cooked dinner for us one night. Our every need was anticipated, and then some.
-- The house is in a fantastic location with a nearby fish market that is exceptional, a delightful bakery that we frequented for its fabulous smoothies and comfort food, and exquisite opportunities for ceviche in several local restaurants.
-- We loved the views of the ocean and sunsets from the infinity pool.
One piece of advice: rent a 4-wheel-drive car for the trip. The house is up a steep dirt road about five minutes from town, and the roads in general in the area are in poor condition with lots of deep potholes. If you fly one of the local airlines from San Jose to Tambor Beach, one of the local rental agencies will meet you there and take you to the nearby office.
We can't wait to come back to Casa Brisas del Cabo!
Staying at the Casita Brisas was like staying with cherished friends in an extension of their home. From the moment we pulled in the driveway, we felt at home. We were greeted by Shelley, her husband Marshal and their caretaker Philip. We were immediately shown around the property by Shelley while our luggage was brought to the casita. Shelley was kind enough to supply us of a list of "must do" activities while we were in the Mal Pais/Santa Teresa area. We carried this list with us as we explored the area and found it to be invaluable to us as every activity was "spot on". We enjoyed being pampered daily by the staff at the casita. We loved the fresh fruit and occasional breakfast smoothie from Rayna and felt spoiled by the laundry service. The casita is far more beautiful than the pictures show and the atmosphere is beyond amazing. We watched the Howler monkeys play in the trees beside the casita, enjoyed the countless birds and loved as we watched and listened to the ocean waves crash the upon the shore. The dogs that live on the property were a welcome addition to our vacation and added a person feel to our stay. I anticipated that our trip to Costa Rica would be memorable but I had no way of knowing that what we would experience would be so amazing. We plan to return to the casita as soon as possible. We can't thank Shelley, Marshall, Philip, Julie, Rayna and Sergio enough for making us feel at home at the casita.
Shelly's Casita was absolutely fantastic! Both Shelley and her husband, Marshall, made us feel incredibly welcome from the moment we arrived. The property sits up the mountain overlooking the beautiful Pacific ocean and is just a short drive or walk down to one of the best restaurants in Mal Pais, Mary's. Drive 5 minutes through Mal Pais and you will be in the buzzing little town of Santa Teresa. Each morning Shelley left us fresh fruit in our fridge, and every day when we got back from the beach the casita was cleaned, the bed was made, we had fresh towels by the pool, and even our laundry was done! The place is incredibly private with amazing sunsets and unreal star watching at night. You're likely to see monkey's, iguanas, and will receive frequent visits from the very cute and friendly dogs that live on the property. While the pictures are quite impressive, I'm not sure they capture just how spacious, comfortable, and luxurious the casita really is. The landscaping around the casita is very impressive as well. We could not have been happier or had a better time and cannot wait to get back one day.
Shelley and Marshall are very nice people. We saw them daily, got to know them a little bit, and as we've said could not have felt more comfortable. They gave us great recommendations on where to eat, things to do, and places to visit. Shelley even gave us two free Yoga passes at Horizon in Santa Teresa. Finally, if you visit get to know Sergio! He's a local Costa Rican who takes care of the property and the casita. He's a super guy and we really enjoyed getting to know him as well.
We could go on and on. Book it!
We felt very welcome. We felt our privacy was respected well by the owners and her service staff. The pictures were very accurate and view/ unit was better than pictures shown. BIG ocean views and perfect unobstructed sunset. Short drive to the best beach in area (surf or surfside umbrella chair dining) -Playa Carmen.
The hosts were very accomodating and met a few extra requests we had with ease. Unit is in best area of the peninsula Playa malpais/playa carmen area. If you are a person who can enjoy complex travel conditions and all of the surprises remote jungle can bring, this is the best accommodation of this type I saw in 6 years and 16 times in Costa Rica. (Mini house casita on a private property even against parger houses we compared for this trip)
We saw NO hotels or private listings in our many searches on many sites who we as high quality and elegant as this unit was. Top of a mountain overlooking ocean with about a 120 degree view. Wildlife was abundant and enjoyable including howler monkeys heard in the distance and white face monkeys and giant iguanas (white one in a tree!) within 30 feet of the unit.
If we are ever in the Malpais area again, YES we would choose this reservation even after seeing all the others around because it is NOT on a dusty road (rare in this area) and is safe and secure and private.
I am not sure where to start as so many things were amazing about this home, the service we received and the overall vacation! The minute we booked this phenomenal home we began receiving very helpful advice from Shelley (owner). She was super helpful with all the travel logistics as well as recommending restaurants and best beaches to hang out on. The day before we arrived she handed over the logistics to Phillip and Julie who would be onsite and handling logistics for us. We had know idea how integral to our vacation they would become!!
Phillip picked us up at the Tambor airport which was much appreciated as we were pretty exhausted by this point from traveling. Julie had made a lasagne for us to eat the first night since we were too wiped to go out. In the gift basket was wine and other treats that were so appreciated that first night. They assisted in arranging our ATV rentals (brought to the house), zip lining, fishing excursion (lots of Mahi Mahi caught and consumed), yoga....It was the most relaxing vacation we have ever had since we didn't have to worry about one thing just relaxing and having fun!!! Phillip would bring our teenagers coconuts and bananas just picked that morning from the property. Amazingly, they did so much but in the most behind the scene way possible. I could go on and on about how wonderful they both made our stay.
Now the house and property!! The photos are good but I don't think any photos can do this home and property justice. Every single hand crafted detail is exquisite! Every bedroom opens up unto the grand outdoor pool area so there isn't a bad room. We sat and watched the monkeys from the deck every morning while drinking our delicious Costa Rican coffee. With the many doors that open onto the deck you are able to hear the ocean waves throughout the home.
We will certainly come back to Costa Rica and this house again and again! It will be almost impossible to top this vacation.
