Something about ourselves
I am a Londoner by adoption and have been here on and off for the last few years and I am now in the process of relocating back to London or Oxford asap on a permanent basis. My partner Alda entrusts me with running the place because of my linguistic capacities and my international experience.I am a woman in her mid-60's, trying to be a writer. I am a retired development consultant who worked many years as director of development/aid projects in southern Africa. I was born and raised in Mozambique though my parents were Portuguese. My interests are varied and include: photography, restoration of old buildings, nature conservation, international connections and friendships. Whenever I am in Portugal I share the main house with Alda the house owner, who is a lawyer (attorney-at-law) and whose office is in the nearby charming historic town of Caminha 11 km north of our gate. Alda enjoys discussing the differences in the various legal systems around the world and loves the garden and gardening. We like to travel and to share hospitality with kindred spirits and sometimes we also do non-simultaneous home exchanges. Even though I am now again a UK resident I will go to Afife occasionally especially over summer when more Airbnb guests stay with us so I hope to meet you there soon.
note: We obviously prefer guests who show respect or their temporary home and know how to clean up after themselves! We have had problems with a few (a minority, I add) guests not cleaning at all even though the cottages are self-catering - this is part of our home and we like people who are sensitive enough to realise this, it is not a serviced hotel! Airbnb is a different kind of paid accommodation where relationships matter.
