I am an Account Executive at a marketing agency in Austin. I live on the East Side. I like good beer, grilled food, and gardening.
John is a very friendly and welcoming host. Everything worked, he took me to the nearest store and helped get me set up in terms of transportation.
It was great! Everyone was pleasant, the place is in a great spot, and it was clean.
John's place was great, and he was a fantastic host! Really good location, close to the east side bars, and walking distance from downtown for SXSW. Everyone i the house was clean and respectful. The backyard chickens were rad!
was a really nice place and a fair price for sxsw. just a 20-25min walk to the convention center.
would come back for sure.
Great location and great host. It is at walking distance to downtown and to many restaurants. Would recommend.
I was down at John's place for SXSW and it was great. It was my first SXSW and I quickly found out that the east side is the side of town to be on. It was close enough to walk to everything but just far enough that I could get a good and quiet sleep. Everyone there was super friendly and the place was nice and clean!
john was a really responsive host, the house in general was comfortable - w a nice backyard, and I liked the neighborhood. If you knew where to go there were things going on around there. Could of used a little more info on how to get around. I wish I had had a bus schedule and had known about the nearby train that takes one straight into central downtown. Also, the bathroom could have been a little cleaner. At the same time, they had a party there on Sat night, in the back yard. THey invited me which was nice, otherwise I would have never known. They were super quiet and considerate. Prob for someone with a little less need for creature comforts than myself this was a great set up for SXSW.
We stayed here for SXSW 2013. Calling this a "guest house" is an extreme overstatement. The room is a converted tool shed with room for a lofted double (not queen) mattress, which is too close to the ceiling to sit up in bed. Renting this for three people is also really stretching the limits of the space, there was not room for three people to comfortably be in the room at the same time if they were out of bed. The room has no windows, and the porch you have to walk across to the bathrooms is rickety. The bathrooms were dirty, and there were no wastebaskets anywhere. The "main house" was rented out to an uncertain number of people so there were always random people around. I'd say if you wanted a bed to sleep in only, you could stay here. If you want to do anything else outside of a bed, rent someplace else.
John was a fantastic host - friendly, responsive, communicative, hospitable and welcoming. He happily answered my many questions and even offered transit and event suggestions throughout my first SXSW experience. Logistics like getting the key, etc., were made very easy. All in all an easy enough and enjoyable stay.
The room itself was spare but the bed was comfortable - and the point of SXSW wasn't to hang out in the room anyway. Not the cleanest or fanciest space, but it provided a low-key place to rest and shower. The deck out back looked great to hang out on, too.
I had a room with a friend arranged for SXSW (massive annual festival in Austin) that fell through at the last minute and so I had to find a place to stay quickly! I needed a bed at a time when the city is busting at the seams, I found John's room on AIrBnB and it was a great fit.
I think John has a second career as a concierge waiting for him if he wants it -- so articulate, helpful, great information, terrific details. The room was as advertised and I was so grateful for all the information -- both about the house, picking up the key, and getting around. I could contact him with almost instant replies for any questions even if we never did see each other in person. He even arranged for a bike and lock (which I ended up not needing as the bus line, right down the block, got me where I needed to go.)
I was waiting this guest for long hours. did not show up.
Sorry Sam! Our plans changed. I still paid for the room, and messaged you at the time you set for check in to let you know! There was no reason to wait long hours. Sorry it didn't work out, and sorry that you were waiting!
Very nice person. The apt was in perfect state.
John is nice and friendly. The room has been left clean and tidy.
John was a really great guest. Unfortunately we didn't spent much time with him, but he looks like a really cool guy! Left the room and the flat perfectly clean. I surely recommend John!
