The Casa Jardine is a wonderful place to stay. The Location is pretty close to center of Granada, so you can easily walk everywhere you want (even at night). The room is nice and clean - it also has an AC. We felt very welcome there: although Joel wasn`t there and we unfortunately don`t speak much spanish, we didn`t have any problems. The housekeeper Candi was very caring and is a really lovely Person.
We really can recommend a stay at Joel`s Casa.
This was a great place to stay in Granada. It's conveniently located (just a few blocks from Central Park), and Candi was a wonderful host while Joel was out of the country. The room was clean and simple, with AC and a decent fan. The bed was okay.
Though the neighborhood seems relatively quiet overall, you may want to bring earplugs for sleeping. The house dog, Lika, is very sweet-- and a great watch dog! She's on alert at night too, and barks intermittently. There are also a few dogs in surrounding homes that, during our stay, made quite a racket at night. But with some earplugs, we managed to tune a fair amount of it out.
My friend and I had a wonderful time at Casa Jardines. It has a beautiful garden and the room was nice and clean. The place is very close to Granada's main sights (Catedral, La Calzada...), restaurants, bars and cafés and we felt really safe walking back in the evening (although you come across "hissing" sounds that some Nica guys love to make when female tourists walk by...but harmless).
Although Joel wasn't there at the time, his housekeeper took really good care of us, preparing delicious breakfast when we woke up.
I would definitely stay again at Casa Jardines! Hasta la próxima :)
We had a wonderful, relaxing stay with Joel. His house is conveniently located in a residential neighborhood that is close enough to the city center that you can get anywhere by foot. Joel accommodated any need we had, whether it was recommending restaurants (he noted that we are vegetarian and suggested a great restaurant just blocks away), arranging a taxi to/from the airport, and allowing us to use the washing machine. Both he and Candi are very sweet, friendly people, and I already miss being in their company! If you're going to Granada, I would highly recommend staying at Casa Jardines.
After two wonderful weeks in Ecuador, we landed in Nicaragua on what the locals assured us was the hottest day of the year. It took us about 45 minutes to get to Granada from the airport in Managua and frankly, by the time we arrived, I was lusting after the air conditioner. The room we had was spacious and quiet and the garden in the courtyard is lovely. We had a traditional Nica breakfast in the morning which was small but delicious. We only stayed one night with Joel, but I found him to be informative, helpful and accomodating. He also helped us secure transport from the airport which was above and beyond the call. With only one night to explore on foot, we didn't have a great impression of Granada our first night. If you stay here, make sure to spend some time in other parts of town. There is a lively restaurant scene on the street behind the big cathedral and there are many places to enjoy music. Also, if you can, visit Laguna de Apoyo. It's a crater lake about 20 minutes outside of Granada and a great way to beat the heat. Check in at any of the bar/restaurants by the water where you can swim, eat and drink to your heart's content.
Joel was a wonderful host. The room we had was great and Joel said we could even use the air conditioner as long as we stayed in the room (prices are expensive out here for this). We only booked one night but decided to stay for two. There was an incident where the guard dog was a little loud, but she only barks for long periods of time when something really bugged her. The fact that we were safe and lost a handful of hours of sleep didn't bug us too badly. We recovered the next night. We had a nice basic breakfast included with our meal. Joel and the others that lived here were fantastic and helped us with whatever we needed, directions, getting transportation, etc. Our room was big for just the two of us and we really enjoyed the temperature of the shower. Our toilet was having an issue with flushing, but we were able to fix it ourselves. We had no worries staying with Joel and I'd highly recommend booking with him :) He's also a very interesting character to talk to! The location was okay, you have to walk a bit farther out to get to where you'd like to, which is a bummer in hot humid weather, but it's pretty cheap to take at taxi if you'd like to do so. They run by the road outside of Joel's place very often so you don't have to worry about hunting one down. Stay here if you have the opportunity!
Our stay was great! Casa Jardines is a beautiful home within walking distance of Granada's historic center with a lovely garden, open kitchen and quaint, traditional rooms. Joel and his housekeeper Candi were tremendous hosts and made our stay comfortable and memorable. Because of the brick construction, the rooms stayed cool despite the heat, and the air conditioning was there when we needed it. It was a wonderful place to return to and relax, so we will definitely stay again the next time we are in Granada!
Our stay at Casa Jardines was absolutely DELIGHTFUL!!!! Joel, our host is such a wonderful and knowledgeable person to be around. He made us feel welcomed as soon as we stepped through the front door. Our first night there, he informed us of all the do’s and don’ts around the area, made us aware of the conditions of the streets – little pot holes, high and low pavements which are throughout the town, and of course, a little advice on little critters such as mosquitoes. The house is situated perfectly in a quiet and SAFE neighborhood and less than 5 minutes away from the center of town. There’s a garden by the rooms, with a hammock to relax after a long day of sightseeing as well as a sitting area with comfy couches. Candy, the housekeeper will prepare breakfast for you at your request which was a plus but most of the time we ate out because we wanted to try the local food around the area. If we return to Nicaragua for a second visit, we’ll definitely be staying with Joel again.
I'm ready to pack it all up and move in with Joel! The house is BEAUTIFUL + SUPER SAFE + VERY WELCOMING + PERFECTLY LOCATED! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in a nice cool room, with a kitchen to use and ample space to hang out and lounge :) It is situated close enough that you are within walking distance of everything, but far enough away that it is quiet. Can't recommend this place enough! Seriously, Joel, save my room for me ;)
Casa Jardines is a lovely home with even lovelier people running it. Joel is a wealth of information and goes out of his way to be helpful and make your trip enjoyable. He responds to everything you ask with kindness (made sure that my linens were without fragrance since I'm chemically sensitive, found me an art class, got me to the market so that I could buy my fruit for my special diet, etc.) and I've found it to be very helpful to my successful journey here. Candy cares for the house and keeps it clean at all times and is a very warm and delightful presence. As much as I've enjoyed the colonial style house, it is the people here that make it a place you want to stay. For me that is a wonderful feeling while exploring a city where I know no one nor the language. Because of staying here, Granada has become a wonderful life experience for me and I hope it is for you, too!
