I'm a museum researcher who works in the fields of arachnology and science outreach. Yes, I work on spiders; yes, I can catch them for you! I've lived in the USA as well as the South Pacific - my work takes me to all kinds of places around the world, which I love. I'm an avid reader, a dedicated hunter of all things vintage and retro, and have a science communication radio show on RTRFM 92.1 (Perth's community radio station). When I actually did get stuck on a tropical island (this is true, seriously, though it wasn't at all uninhabited... there were about 300 other people living there) I was carrying two books: Norman Mailer's "The Naked and the Dead" and Carsten Jensen's "We the Drowned". Not that I spent too much time reading - the days got pretty busy what with catching spiders, conducting scientific outreach at the school and chatting with folks at the end of a long day's work!
I always try to be a considerate traveler and guest. One of my favourite things about traveling is to find a cafe and to read/ people watch in order to get my bearings in a new town. It's after an hour or so of that that I really like to go exploring!
