I am a small business owner in Chicago and work in the innovation space. I'm originally from Wisconsin, but have lived in Michigan, Texas and Tokyo over the past 20 years. I now live in Chicago and am recently married to my husband Brian, who is Scottish and came to Chicago to get his foot in the door in the American blues scene, getting a visa through a full-time unpaid volunteer program working with the the homeless. When I met him, he was working in and living above a soup kitchen facility with a group of other European kids ten years his junior, just to play blues guitar with people he admires. He just finished his album, so now we are trying to pitch him for gigs, and that means traveling as much as we can afford, to see the other artists that he wants to learn from and to go to blues events and festivals for exposure.
I travel a lot for work and always have to stay in hotels, so when I can I prefer to rent apartments to feel more at home and to be in more "local' neighborhoods. When I lived in Tokyo, I used to rent out my apartment, and it afforded my guests the more local experience. During that time, I really appreciated people who were respectful of my things. I will do the same for yours and take very good care of your space, if we rent from you.
We also love recommendations about local restaurants or places to go out, if you have time! And if you are ever in Chicago, we're happy to be tour guides or recommend the best finds in the city!
