I live in the Santa Cruz mountains, self motivated, loves the outdoors, loves rock climbing, wine tasting, eating at different restaurants, and a father of 5, and a grandfather of 4.
Mike's cottage is a great place to stay. Location is wonderful, and the cottage is cozy and quiet surrounded by Redwoods. Great stuff to do a short jaunt in all directions. Recommend it, and the area highly.
Muke's place is nestled in the hills next to a beautiful creek. It's idyllic! The perfect, peaceful getaway. We explored, had a campfire, shared a beer with our hosts and had a generally wonderful time. The cabin was also delightful, clean and stocked with all the amenities we could need.
very nice property and the people were kind and accommodating. The kitchen is spartan but they have a grill and a fire pit outdoors which they offered to fire up. My brother cooked sausage.
Mike and Amy were very hospitable. They made a fire for us and gave us a lot of info on local trails and spots to visit. Easy to talk to, down to earth, genuine, lovely people. Very easy to get in touch with Mike too, especially before our stay in the cabin. The cabin itself was cozy and perfect. Very clean and the water for showers/sink was readily available and hot! Would recommend this spot to anyone. However, important to know-there is no cell service/wifi in cabin. This was a perfect relaxing getaway just one hour from San Francisco. Take highway 1 to enjoy the beautiful scenery on your journey there!
Come not for luxury but for the deep beauty of the location. We found ourselves deep in the redwoods, perched in a cabin set right into the hillside: the front windows looked out over the host's house to gigantic redwoods and the stream bed of Pescadero Creek.
The cabin is clean and simple: big comfortable bed for the deep sleeps we enjoyed there; a small refrigerator, coffee-maker, and microwave to take care of small meals (we breakfasted in a little side patio surrounded by ferns and trees). Our host, Mike, also made his grill and fire-pit available, so one evening we grilled fresh-caught local fish bought in Half Moon Bay.
The food options in town couldn't be better -- we recommend chile soup and berry pie at Duartes, and the pesto pizza at the general store (as New Yorkers, we can vouch for the excellence of the brick-oven-baked crust).
But best of all are the surroundings -- Pescadero beach, with its pelicans, sea lions, and tidepools; the local state parks with ocean bluff and redwood trails. We could easily have stayed a week -- though we had the good fortune of staying mid-week, when we rarely saw another hiker in the woods.
Mike was a good host, helpful and knowledgeable of the surrounding area. The cottage was as described, the linens were clean, the price was right, and it is situated in a beautiful spot. Recommended.
We had an excellent time at this beautiful cottage. Beautiful location, and the interior of the cottage was cozy and pleasant. We didn't have any problems with the facilities (such as water or plumbing). People have complained of a mildewy smell, but if they just step outside into the woods, they'll realize, that that's pretty much how the woods are. Didn't want to leave!
The beach 5 miles down the road is fantastic, and the woods immediately outside the cabin are simply breathtaking.
Mike was a great host, and very willing to help out with our planning for dinner/hiking etc. That being said, this cottage was a bit run down. The water was brown, the bathroom was dirty, the shower didn't work, and as other guests mentioned: it had a strong mildew smell in all blankets. The bed was new, clean and comfortable. Just think of it as camping with a bed-- and you'll be pleased. It's cheap, and a great location. No cell service on AT&T or Verizon.
The reservation was canceled 2 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
I enjoyed my stay. It was cold outside, but I stayed toasty warm up there. Good insulation, I felt. Mike is a gracious host. Nice and quiet here. Thanks!
