Aloha! I'm a 33-year-old middle school mathematics teacher originally from Seattle, WA and Santa Maria, CA. I moved to O'ahu 2 years ago from Portland, OR, after I finished my masters in teaching at Lewis and Clark College. I work in Wai'anae, West Oahu at Wai'anae Intermediate School with the Gifted and Talented 8th grade team.
I LOVE living on O'ahu! The weather is AMAZING, the vistas are gorgeous, the hiking thrilling, the beaches...inviting! From my place on the east end, adjacent to Waikiki, you can walk to EVERYTHING. That's the best part of living here. On a given Saturday I will walk my dog at Kapiolani park, walk to the grocery store, the gym, the zoo, the aquarium, shopping, and of course, THE BEACH! Especially after commuting 35 miles to work every day, I love to just park my car and head out on foot, and not drive again until Monday morning! You can even learn to surf or stand-up paddle at the end of Kapahulu street at Waikiki Beach.
If you are going to venture out in a vehicle, O'ahu has so much to offer. The North Shore has huge surf, tasty shrimp trucks, and gorgeous, secluded beaches. West Oahu has hot, secluded beaches with dolphins and whale viewing, and great snorkling! Hiking abounds all around the island, and I can recommend favorite spots. One of my favorite activities is to take my motorcycle around the entire island, and stop at some of the famous shrimp trucks along the way. Fun times!
Art galleries, music, food, and nightlife await in Chinatown, if you like a more alternative scene. If not, hit Kalakaua and Kuhio avenues, just 1 mile from my place, for nightclubs, shopping, and dozens of restaurants to suit any palate.
I hope you come stay at our penthouse and experience the Aloha of the island of O'ahu, the Gathering Place.
