I am a graduate student in my 30s working on a Ph.D. in English Literature. I'm also a black belt in Kokikai Aikido, which I practice and teach on a regular basis, as well as an avid traveler, hiker, eater, and general life explorer. I've lived in the U.K., New Zealand, Australia, and Japan. My apartment is a quiet place where guests can relax and plan their adventures without having to worry about socializing or pleasing their hosts. My roommate and I are not around much, though I do enjoy meeting people from around the country and the world and can be available to show guests around. But the advantage of staying with me is probably the luxury of solitude. After a hectic day in the human crush of New York, this can be a nice way to take a break! A note on languages: I have some ability to speak, but not perfect fluency in, Japanese, German, and Spanish, and my roommate is a native speaker of Chinese, should you need basic assistance in any of those languages. I also keep travel literature, maps, and information pertinent to life and sightseeing in New York City in the apartment at all times.
