I'm Peter, I currently live in New York. I have joined AirBnB to travel- more specifically, to find a new city to settle. AirBnB provides a cost-effective way to visit and preview U.S. cities.
I have been primarily a life-long NYer, and it will always be my hometown. However, it has recently occurred to me that the monetary and psychological ‘cost of living’ in NYC is extremely draining. It was the center of the universe when I was younger. In adulthood, both New York City and the State of NY (cost of living, Taxes) are increasingly more expensive. Most of my friends have either been priced out of NYC completely or have moved to other states.
My other motivation is that I am quite sure there are other cities that I would enjoy as much as NYC. I have lived in and visited many foreign countries, but I have only lived in three U.S. states (NY, CT, MA). I am worried that my lack of American urban exploration has turned me into a typical defensive, provincial New Yorker. Its time to change my mindset, maybe try to walk in someone else’s cowboy boots for awhile.
I guess we shall see what happens….
Cities I plan to visit:
1) Austin, TX
2) Los Angeles, CA
3) Sacramento, CA
4) Philadelphia, PA
5) Columbus, OH
6) (Maybe) Portland, OR
