Our experience at the mill cottage was great! Our hosts were very friendly and accommodating and the cottage had tons of character and charm.
Just a few things to note:
* it gets quite cold at night so be sure to use the heaters or the fireplace (which our hosts graciously prepared for us prior to our arrival). We made the mistake of not using either on our first night!
* apparently people were shorter 300 years ago so mind your head on the front door (I got a bit of a shiner!)
* the hot water heater is small so don't expect long, hot showers
All in all we really enjoyed our experience at the cottage and would highly recommend it.
This little village was absolutely charming. There is a walking tour of the town that shows lots of interesting little spots that you would never know are there--an old well up the hill that has ancient stone carvings for example. Take the walking tour. It is well situated to travel south to Waterford or Wexford, or north to Kilkenny, which was a wonderful town. We had a little trouble locating the place so when you was the folks in town, don't say THE POTTERY because the people in town don't know it by that name. They know it as someone's old place--maybe Anna--ask David and Jadzia what to ask for--but the house itself is very charming.
Response from Jadzia:
Thank you Barbara and huge thanks for leaving the house so perfectly, we really appreciate it.. Jadzia & Dave
Myself and three friends spend the weekend in the Pottery in Inistiooge. What an amazing house and gardens.! Great location in the Village. Lovely walk to Woodstock. Jadzia and Dave were great hosts and gave us lots of (website hidden) Mullens well worth a visit. Also New Ross is very near and we had a cruise on the river with afternoon tea for €12!
Altogether a lovely stay. Everything you want in the house including a lovely cosy fire which we lit despite the gorgeous weather. What can be nicer than to relax with friends by the fire over a glass or two of wine!
I would highly recommend it and would love to go back. Maria
We stayed at the Mill Cottage and it was everything it says on the tin. Jadzia and Dave were the nicest people you could hope to meet; I only wish we could have heard Dave play while we were there and that we could have stayed longer. Walking through Kells Priory at dusk was amazing, and as they work to preserve it, should only get better. We loved the cd Dave gave us and hope to be back to hear him live.
Absolutely wonderful. The cottage is beautiful and Kells is a lovely town. Will have to come back and visit the chickens, Dave and Jadzia again!
Jadzia and Dave were fantastic hosts, a warm welcome on arrival, they explained everything about the house and made us feel very comfortable and at home. We were able to listen to some lovely local Irish tunes on the cd player while enjoying a slice of local soda bread and butter provided by Jadzia and Dave. The house is beautiful the pictures do not do it justice and the garden surrounding it magical. Lots of information about the local area with more little places to visit and explore than we could fit into our short stay. The house is well appointed, a large shower area feels luxurious, the bed is big and comfortable with nice dark curtains so you can sleep in. It is an old house so I was expecting it to be a little cold however the heating was great and there were extra oil heaters and hot water bottles if you needed them. We were traveling with a baby and enjoyed sitting by the fire in the evening with a glass of wine while she slept, it is a great house and get away for a baby lots of interesting places for them to play inside and outside and lovely walks just out the front door. I could not recommend a stay here highly enough if you are trying to decided between a couple of options just stay here, we were in another place for a couple of days prior and lamented this after our arrival. With such great hosts a house that is comfortable, homely and warm and so much going on in the area there is no other choice. We will certainly be coming back for a gig at the red shed
Loved this cottage in Inistioge. If I could pick it up and take it home to Australia I would be a very happy lady. Peaceful and cosy but still roomy enough for our eight adults. Only problem was the length of our stay was too short. A great place to explore Ireland.
I could no possibly boast enough about how amazing this stay was! Jadzia and Dave are terrific hosts and the cottage is absolutely perfect! The perfect quintessential Irish cottage, Jadzia has done an amazing job perfecting the warm and comfortable feel inside and out! The hospitality was second to none! Dave is the man! Had a great time hanging with him! Also ontop of all of that, the cottage is in a great location, only an amazingly beautiful 5 minute walk to the Kells Priory (which is a ruins from the 12th century) It is like having your own castle in your backyard to explore! Also only a short drive to Kilkenny, and if your really lucky you may catch one of your hosts putting on a great Irish Music Session in the local pubs! Thank you Jadzia and Dave for the wonderful memories!
We stayed here during 4 nights with my family of 7. A lovely, cozy house with fireplace and the best beds we slept in! (wanted to take them back home...) The kitchen is fully equiped for all you might need. Don't forget the pastryshop across the street; pavlova to die for!
I found out about this cottage completely by chance while planning a trip with my parents to Ireland. It seemed like a great place to stay and something "off the beaten path", but since my plans didn't really include that part of Ireland, I passed it by and continued making my original plans. However, somehow the image conjured up by the cottage kept coming back to me. I discussed this with my wife and she said "it doesn't make any sense to change your entire plans just to stay in one "enchanting" cottage". Even though this made total sense, I couldn't seem to get the idea of staying in the cottage out of my mind. Thus in the end, I changed around a good portion of my trip "just to stay in that cottage". Well, my gut instincts proved correct. The cottage and the whole atmosphere was indeed enchanting. And our hosts Jadzia and Dave, were extremely hospitable, friendly and outgoing in their desire to make you feel right at home...one of the family. And if someone likes "off the beaten" path then this is the perfect choice. Yet this doesn't mean there is nothing to do in the near area. There is plenty to do and this area gives you a feeling of the real Ireland...especially the priory and mill right down the road. My only regret is that 2 nights passed by rather quickly and we definitely could have stayed longer. I plan on returning someday soon with my wife and kids. This was truly a great experience.
Contentment is Wealth.
If it’s contentment you want then there is no better place then Jadiza and David’s The Pottery.
Indeed we have the privilege of staying at there over Christmas and what a relaxing time it was. The description on airbnb is everything it says it is. And more.
I highly recommend staying at the cottage, spend time in the village of Inistioge and meet the local characters. The cottage was warm, comfortable and cosy. The village full of history and beautiful nature walks. And the people, well you need to meet them.
Not unlike J.R. R. Tolkien’s The Shire, a world to itself, wealthy in its contentment.
Jadiza and David have created something special at The Pottery. Be there.
If you are seeking a truly authentic taste of Ireland, past and present, this is the place for you. The cottage itself oozes old world charm yet does not compromise on comfort and convenience. Once nestled within its ‘three feet thick’ walls you will find it hard to leave as did I. Step outside the backdoor and you enter the magical sloping ‘fairytale’ garden. Lovingly nurtured by the hostess with the ‘mostess’, it is a classic example of a cottage garden with a vibrant colourful well balanced mix of wild and manicured plant life. The view from the tree swing at the top of the garden across to the ruins of Kells priory (one of the best kept secrets in Ireland) and down to the kings river mills, will stay with you long after your departure.
Your hosts Jadzia and Dave, likewise will offer a balanced approach to your needs. If you require space, peace and privacy you will be left to your own devices, on the other hand if you are up for mingling, music, food, craic or entertainment you will find all the good things in life served up in abundance and laced with quality and perfection. Dave, a renowned musician will direct you to and often play host at local gigs. You can’t beat an impromptu ‘mad jacks bar’ Sunday afternoon session!
Kells itself is located a short distance from Kilkenny city and easy access to the main M9 motorway yet walking through the magnificent ruins of the priory will instantly take you back in time.
I will end with a warning, book your arrival date but leave your departure date flexible as many the weary traveller has been ‘Kellsnapped’ by the charm of both the cottage and its hosts!
I have had the pleasure of staying with Dave and Jadzia numerous times and have to say, I look forward to going back every time..... :)
The thatched cottage has a really nice atmosphere and is decorated to a high standard, warm and comfortable. It is tasteful and there are lots of lovely curios around the place, and a huge atmospheric fireplace, Out the back the garden is overwhelming with lots of colourful plants and hidden corners around the place.
Dave and Jadzia are super hosts ( I would say that) but, wait, it is true :) Dave never misses a trick and is generous in heaping this upon you. For the record is is not bad at the di-ger-i-doo as well, and word has it he plays the guitar a wee bit too; but best of all are his vocals- which he uses to great Tom Waits effects, if you catch him in a good mood, and a hoor, if you are late for dinner. Dave is a sensitive creter too, and if he senses you wana be left to yer own devices,. he will let you alone; and probably go and play with the lorri by himself- you see dave's originally hails from Kildare (spare a thought).
The area is gift too. There is Mad Jacks pub and beautiful walks, the priory is one of Ireland's hidden gems and you are within drink driving distance of Inistoigue, Thomastown and Kilkenny, where there is plenty to see and do. But to honest, Kilkenny is such a beautiful county of trees and rivers that the drives in the area are also really nice.
Thumbs up for Jadzia and Dave- Like :)
