Director of the Self Discovery Center
I really enjoyed a peaceful stay in this lovely room. The hosts were very helpful and friendly, and I had everything that I needed.
This was my third time staying at the Self Discovery Center. Communication with Leela was super, loved the sunny red queen room. Location is wonderful as is the neighborhood. A peaceful spot in a fast-paced city.
The room was nice and spacious and located in a great neighborhood. Leela was accommodating by adjusting the room to our needs. We had a wonderful stay!
Leela was very forgiving of my 6-hour delay in getting to the B and B, showing up at 8 pm instead of 2 pm. She gave a thorough tour of the house and security that was easy to remember (you can lock your own door). The bedroom and bathroom were spotless, the linens washed, and towels artfully arranged. There was also a space heater which was handy for the night.
I should add that the room is incredibly spacious, can be filled with light (if you opt to push the curtains aside), the bed, large and comfortable, and the wifi was easy to attain (given that I have the world's worst wifi catcher, this means the wifi connection is amazing).
Leela made sure that I knew I could access the kitchen and eats fruits and cereal. During the last day of my stay, I utilized the washer and dryer which was a definite plus (and included in the package) and had no problems in using them (i.e. no soggy clothes in the dryer, no broken dryers, etc.). She and As. were very responsive to my questions and texts and in helping me figure stuff out (in general).
This was a friendly place where I was made to feel welcome. My room was comfortable and peaceful. The house sits across from a great park with running/walking trails. I took public transport (train and bus) from the airport and then went into downtown each day for a conference. I liked being away from downtown and in a more quiet neighborhood.
Beautiful older house in a peaceful neighborhood originally designed by Frederick Olmstead.
The location is within three blocks of a coffeehouse, a movie theater, and a 24-hour diner (the historic Majestic Diner). Another block gets you to a grocery store/pharmacy. There's a nice small playground for young children across the (residential) street.
There are several bus routes within three or four blocks, which connect to the MARTA train and one that goes directly downtown. The downtown bus goes by the Carter Presidential Library. It takes from 20 - 40 minutes to get downtown whether by bus or bus+train. (website hidden) Maps' public transportation option worked well to indicate where and when to catch the bus.
Lots of natural light and wood throughout the house. The room has its own bathroom with plenty of hot water. Quiet and peaceful - no TV, thank goodness. Large clean kitchen too. The downstairs has a large open room perfect for yoga.
The Center is next door to, and owned/run by, a Hindu-based spiritual community. Don't let that put you off! There wasn't any proselytizing. Everyone was curteous, welcoming, and helpful to guests.
Leela was very considerate, keeping in touch via text and email as I went about my crazy-busy conference schedule. I mentioned a food sensitivity to her, and there were alternatives in the kitchen the next day.
If you're looking for a quiet and peaceful room, and don't mind some walking and using public transportation, this is a great place!
Kamalaski was super sweet, made us GF brownies for our breakfast! If we are in Atlanta again, we will be back. Thanks!!!
Extremely nice, accommodating place. The host was great, very considerate. The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. The neighborhood is very nice with wonderful walking paths nearby for getting out, and some good restaurants close by. This bnb is also a guest house affiliated with the spiritual center next door, and the whole place is infused with a charged, yet peaceful energy that most, I'm sure, will find quite soothing. A wonderful respite, either as a stop along your journey, or a destination in its own right.
Lovely people and a lovely place.
I stayed here while attending DragonCon and it was great to have a quiet place to go back to. Our room was spacious, a great temperature, very clean and well appointed, with a private bath. I'd recommend it to anyone.
