To clarify, my family was and is still very upset about the chicken killed by our dog Princess.
But the situation was not as described. Immediately upon our arrival, I could see some of Beth's chickens were roaming loose. I told Beth that I would keep my dogs on leashes because our larger rescue dog had strong prey instincts and would go after the chickens if they were running loose. She said that she could put the chickens in their coop, but I told her that I would just keep the dogs on leashes which I did. Even the next morning, I had them on leashes when I met Beth with her dog in the garden. She told me that she had put the chickens away; so that it would be ok to let the dogs off-leash if I preferred. Since Princess would only be interested if they were running loose, I did take the dogs off leash and Beth toured us around the property including her art studio and gallery store - we all walked together with my dogs off leash. As we were walking back to the house, Princess ran off quickly and as we heard the commotion. Beth said that one of the chickens was not in the pen, but it was too late. My daughter and I were both distraught over the chicken's death and apologized to Beth offering to do whatever we could. She said that we should just pay the security deposit for the dogs which we were happy to do. We even stopped by her booth later at the farmer's market, apologized again and bought something from her to further make amends.
As our other reviews show, we are not careless guests and have stayed in other airbnb locations with chickens and assorted animals with no incident. This was a very terrible event, but I wanted to be sure that it was accurately described.
