I stayed with John for an extended 7 week period while I attended a program at Umass-Amherst. John was great, and his place was quiet, warm, and comfortable. I was able to study and get work done in a peaceful setting, I couldn't have asked for more. John was very friendly and always quick to offer to help.
John was a very amicable host and tried very hard to make the accommodations work for me. He is very gracious and welcoming and even invited me to his zen meditation group!
Yes, it was a wonderful experience. John accepted my last-minute request, and made it work to meet me despite an unusually busy schedule that night. It's a wonderful homey atmosphere, comfortable bed, and I felt totally at home using the kitchen. The property is very quiet, out in the woods, and time felt very spacious here. I'd definitely recommend the experience.
John was very welcoming! Everything was just as described, he even offered coffee, fruit and yogurt which was perfect. Most importantly, I was at a conference and decided to stay over for the 2nd day. So I contacted John about 1 hour before I arrived!
The pictures don't do this peaceful oasis any justice. It was exactly what my boyfriend and I needed to get away from the grind of the city. John was super responsive and easily coordinated our arrival since our plans were loose and we weren't sure when we'd arrive. He kindly welcomed us at the door and gave us a tour of the space while chatting with us about our trip.
His house is surrounded by woods and right next to a pretty reservoir. Down the street there's an Alpacca farm, and just when we thought it couldn't get any better, there were goats in his backyard!! He'd hired goats to clear brush for a couple of weeks and we were lucky enough to stay there while they chomped away. After we were settled, he gave us our privacy and my boyfriend and I sat on his enclosed porch, drank wine and chatted the night away, then slept peacefully in a comfy room filled with books. The next morning, John had a fruit plate and coffee ready for us and kindly suggested a breakfast place in town.
We took selfies with the goats before we took off. Basically it was amazing.
We love the natural surrounding of this lovely house, which is very close to the colleges, and the host was very nice and considerate. We will recommend this place to anyone, especially those who are interested in Taoism and self sustain...
John's place was very comfortable, quiet and relaxing. He has a nicely decorated house which is in a relatively remote but nice location. As a host he was very friendly and addressed all needs. He provided me with a tasty and healthy breakfast along with an exceptionally good cup of coffee. He also provided good company and gave me hints for places to check out in the area. I would definitely recommend his place for others who are looking to stay in the area.
John's residence was quiet, clean and peaceful. My son and I slept well and were off to a lacrosse tournament Sunday morning with a simple but very healthy breakfast to power our day. I found that (website hidden) maps does a good job of finding John's house. However, on your return into Amherst or beyond, you may have to go a mile or two (back) down the road from the house in order to get cell reception good enough to access navigation services. When in doubt, John can give good directions the old fashion way.
I was most comfortable in John's house and he was a considerate and attentive host. His roommate and her daughter were also great company but privacy was respected by all. One note - GPS took me on a unpaved road through the woods so follow John's directions!
My stay was really great! John is such a nice and peaceful person and the house is beautiful and quiet. I'm thinking of going back soon, it was such a lovely atmosphere. I definitely recommend this place!!
