Okay so, just remember to be open minded of you are trying to travel cheap or are backpacking. We were backpackers and Marie is a very sweet woman but the place was a bit shabby. We don't really mind because we are pretty laid back, and the price was adorable but there were a few things that could have been updated. For instance the kitchen utensils and dishes were awful, we love to cook our own food when traveling and it was incredibly difficult to do so here. She also posts this housing on Craigslist so there are people actually living there for extended periods of time, not just traveling, and we refused to use the shower at all because there was cigarette ash in the bath tub. The people living there were actually incredibly nice, one guy offered to take us to the grocery store since it was much too far to walk. There are lots of bugs in the house at night, and also geckos but the geckos are really cute :) it's in a fantastic location if you love to hike which we do!! We recommend the trail loop at the top of the hill. It was quiet except for roosters in the morning. I'm from a small town with lots of animals so I'm used to that anyway and it didn't bother me. There is tv but you only get a few channels. We didn't have a ride out of the house because our uber app wasn't working and when Marie came to check out the room she helped us get a ride which was very nice of her! All in all I probably wouldn't book here again just because it was so far from the places we wanted to see and it was difficult to use the kitchen but it's not a bad place.
I loved the little cabin feeling. It reminded me of being back home in the Philippines. It's really rustic and I see why some people would say it doesn't fit them. Right down the road there's a really nice hiking trail. It's at the bottom of the mountain so there are plenty of bugs. Being up there was very refreshing. Away from the city, tourist, and large crowds. If you're not picky about your stay, and want to know what it really feels like to live like a local, then stay here. It was fantastic.
Remember it's really rustic!!!
Positives: My wife, child, and I were rather desperate for something inexpensive at short notice and Marie came through quickly and it was the lowest price we were finding. The location is very central for Honolulu. The shared bathroom was clean and functional. We had access to the kitchen. The internet worked fine.
Negatives: This picture is a good depiction. The room was quite poor, the washing machine requires coins, the kitchen had barely anything to use though there was coffee maker and rice cooker. We did not see a big pot to make pasta but managed with a saucepan. The other visitors helped us feel safer because they were similar -- people apartment hunting. We switched to another place after our 2 days there were up. We risked leaving a bottle of white wine in the fridge (hidden in a bag) and that was stolen between 10pm and 6am. I don't think external doors were ever locked so I didn't feel safe that way either.

CAVEAT EMPTOR. Do not stay here. One should be paid to stay here. Not worth the price.
The host didn't make eye contact at check in.
There is black mold all over the bathroom.
The shower head sprays all over. Faucet handle is broken.
The pillows are flat and useless.
Smelt like feces all around.
Room was so hot without a fan.
Floor was unbelievably dirty.
The host clearly doesn't care.
We left instead of staying our second night!

My 2nd stay on Marie's property. I loved this room. It came with everything I needed. A nice place to shower after the beach/hike, cook a meal and sleep in a comfy clean bed. Great for R&R on a budget!
The location is wonderful, close to hiking trails, but the cottage was very dirty, with the smell of cat shit coming in from the windows, and the room had mosquitoes because of broken screens. Outside, it's full of flies because of all the animals and their feces. Not recommended.
My sister and I stayed a few nights here. It was true to the description, it's well worn in due to a great central location and overall great experience. We awoke to roosters as our alarm, got ready and spent all day exploring the south shore and city. We had a car to travel to all the surrounding areas but when we didn't want to drive a LYFT was about a $10 ride to Waikiki. The room had all we needed to rest comfortably when we were there. Met some other travelers trying to enjoy on a budget that had nice suggestions. This was a great home base for a traveler on a budget. Loved seeing the chickens and their baby chicks and kittens every morning and sitting in the yard. This was a chill place for saving money and experiencing Honolulu.
