I rent out rooms in Makiki Heights
Marie was great and prompt with communicating and clarifying any questions we had about the room, nearby bus routes and attractions. She was very sweet! We got a room located in her home, which had all the basic amenities. The walk to the Ala Moana took about 30 mins total, which was nice and convenient.
Some things that are worth mentioning though are:
The house is very cluttered/dirty, so using the kitchen is pretty much out of the question. There are many roosters on the property, which cock-a-doodle-doo at ALL hours of the night and morning, so earplugs are a must. Also, there's 30 cats and a dog in the home/property in which the litter boxes and pee pads are all in the living room right when you walk in.... So the house smells like urine constantly. I woke up several times in the middle of the night because the oder was so strong and fowl.
All in all, great place of your on a budget and don't plan on staying in the room much at all. If your a clean person, probably not the best choice.
Cheers and happy travels!
This place is quaint, great area and has everything you need. It is more like a shared cabin with one other guest but lots of privacy and great hot water in bathroom. It needs a little gentle love and care but it is clean, bug free and great for a those conserving costs and wanting a great location next to an amazing park . It is totally worth the stay and the space is so large and comfy.

We enjoyed our stay here very much. Kevin was very kind and helpful. There are fabulous hiking trails right at the driveway to the house. I loved how peaceful and removed you feel here - almost like your in the jungle but it only takes 10 minutes to get into Waikiki by car. It is definitely a little rustic and imperfect but overall a great value. We had a lot of friends staying in downtown Honolulu who spent 250 dollars a night and I felt like we scored with this place. The roosters are loud but I enjoyed them. If you are a light sleeper just bring earplugs.
Marie was very nice and gave us some great information about the area. The location is awesome over looking Waikiki. We had a lot of fun walking in the area and staying there. The only issue for me is I'm a lite sleeper and the roosters kept me up all night the first night until I got some good ear plugs. The place is nice and has everything you need with a great shower head. Only drawback is, it was a little dusty and we did see some ants but that was no big deal for us guys. The wifi has a very weak signal but that's all the more reason to go outside your in Hawaii after all. Its hard to find a place to stay in Honolulu that's reasonable and I'm glad I found this one.

Marie was very nice and super accommodating. The place worked great for me as I had access to a car. The area is very scenic so make sure to take a walk through the neighborhood. There are wild chickens around the place that are pretty fun to watch and make a natural alarm clock.

Overall experience is good and just what I expected considering the cheap price for staying in her guest rooms. There is a nice hiking trail just outside surrounded by heavy vegetation and the air breeze is so crisp and clean. Marie is a good host and is very accommodating to your needs. Not for her, I would had spent a quiet New Year's eve by myself. She recommended a great New Year's eve block party at Kaka-ako and is an experience I will never forget. I'm looking forward to stay on one of her guest rooms again when I'm visiting Honolulu. Thank you, Marie.
