First time I visited the city and of course first time I did Mardi Gras. Need I say that my knowing I shall return to NOLA often and am even considering moving here reflects very well on both the lodging ( a half of the architectural rectangle known as a shotgun house) and on the neighborhood, Algiers Point? About Algiers Point: I was worried about it being a "sketchy" neighborhood but shouldn't have been. It's as interesting as Bywater, has a terrific cafe to get the day started,Tout de Suite cafe, and in a city of bars has a great neighborhood bar of its own, the Old Point. It 'll be your own quiet neighborhood from the bustle. And the use of the FREE 18-hour ferry to get across OldMan river is quite cool.
The house itself is a representative psychological exclamation point of the architectural coolness of the city. For my money there is more lovely old wooden houses to cherish in NOLA than even San Francisco where I presently reside. Living room is followed by a bedroom followed by a bedroom followed by a living room (with TV) followed by the kitchen and ends with bathroom and laundry room in one long bullet-path line. Every time we returned from our adventures we cherished it.
It seems the way of airbnb lodgings nowadays not to see the host much if at all, and this place was no exception. But what we did see of the mgr. Lauren, who did remind us she was but a phone call away and just a block down at any time, was great. A transplant to the city and obviously still energized about living in NOLA, Lauren was generous and well-informed about advice on how to do Mardi Gras right. (When we ran into local celeb Harry Shearer we knew we had to be in the right place.)
We had a WONDERFUL stay in New Orleans at Seran's house. There were 6 of us staying at the house and we were all still very comfortable. Even though it is a shotgun style house, there are dividers between each room, 2 sides with doors and a curtain that blocks off the front room. We were very surprised how nice everything was and orderly. Though Seran was not in town, she had her property manager meet us and he was a great communicator and very friendly. I cannot say 1 bad thing about this place or our experience. Seran also gave us a list of things to do in the area, helpful tips, etc. The ferry was only a 10-13 minute walk and made it very easy to get downtown without having to drive which was nice some days we didn't feel like driving and parking downtown. I would HIGHLY recommend this property to anyone :) Thanks Seran!
We really enjoyed our stay at Algiers Point. This is the ideal location to stay with young children. It is a quiet neighborhood, walking distance to a fun little playground and the ferry over to the French Quarter. Seran's place has every convenience you could possibly need. The beds were super comfortable and we loved how every room was decorated. Thanks Seran for the perfect accommodations!
Very quaint house. Very New Orleans
We (5 girls) were on a business trip and rented the house for a week. The house is very charming (better than the photos) with AC! The rooms and bathrooms were clean with lots of bedsheets and towels around. The kitchen has everything and basic condiments. There are two beds and one pull-out couch in the living room, all in separated rooms, which worked out well for us. There is only one bathroom.
The house is about 15 min walk to the ferry and a lot of streets are not in very good condition for walking or have no sidewalk. It was not easy to walk with luggages for sure. There was not a lot of traffic so we just walked on the road most of time. Some neighbourhoods look a bit rough, but people are very friendly. There is a small local grocery store a few blocks away, but we cannot find too much fresh veggies or fruit in it. Right besides the grocery store there is a interesting breakfast/coffee shop.
The bikes in the house was a great way to go around the city, there is just not enough bikes for all of us. Ferry comes every half an hour and arrives at the end of Canal st which is 2 blocks from the French quarter. But it stops running after midnight. Calling a cab to go to French quarter from the house costed us a lot (we waited for 30 min) because they added extra charge per person. Getting a cab on the street to go back was much cheaper. However, overall staying on Algiers Point did save us money than staying near down town or French quarter.
Seran is very good at communicating and answering our questions promptly .She even provided us with lots of information around the town before we arrived. We didn't get to meet her but her property manager nearby was also very helpful at solving any issues we had.
This half-shotgun house was spacious, comfortable, cute, and clean for our Jazzfest stay. We enjoyed the quiet neighborhood which has a great little breakfast place down the road, Tout de Suite, and some friendly bars. The ferry is about a 15 minute walk (with kids in tow, so we're a little slower) and the easiest way to get to the Quarter.
I found Seran very easy to contact and responsive to emails. We were very grateful for the breakfast items she'd left for us for the first morning since we got in kind of late and have young kids.
All in all a great experience and I would highly recommend staying here.
I live in Algiers Point (that's how I know Seran) and I've witnessed the care and attention to detail Seran gives her "home away from home". Everything from soft, comfortable beds to wine and goodies makes this the perfect get-away house. Well appointed art and decor makes Seran's New Orleans home a place I've recommended time and time again to friends and family. I've stayed there so I'm happy to put my own stamp of approval on it. Don't miss this gem!
Seran has excellent taste, is a great hostess, and a great talent for making places homey and comfortable, both inside and out.
I have no doubt that you would greatly enjoy the accommodations, and that your stay would be a comfortable and pleasant one in her darling shotgun shack.
