Mark was very informative, kind and quick to respond to every question we had. And the house was easy to access and leave.
The house is a perfect getaway from the manhattan and easy to get to by train or car (we did both). The view from the house is amazing and the house itself is very cozy and great for as many as 3 couples. I would certainly come back again.
Great house on a beautiful, secluded property. Mark was a great host and very easy to communicate with. Would highly recommend for a relaxing weekend get away!
Mark was a very attentive and gracious host. All our questions and concerns were addressed promptly. We were fortunate to stay during Thanksgiving weekend when the area was blanketed in snow…the lodge and property views were stunning. The house is stocked with everything you may need and the house manual Mark provides answers any questions you may have during your stay.
Mark's house in Copake was beyond beautiful!! - it fully allowed my friends and I to take in the stunning autumn foliage of upstate New York during our friends' wedding weekend. The house rules were very thorough and clear and the house was just as we had expected. Mark was very accessible and kind and quick to respond. Would definitely love to rent this property again in the warmer months to make use of the pool!! Thank you Mark!
Oakhill Lodge is a beautiful house with gorgeous views of the Taconic range. We watched the shadows of the clouds play across the forested mountains from the porch off the great room. The house is well appointed and nicely decorated in a simple and tasteful way. It's in a lovely area, close to Hudson and its cultural and culinary delights in one direction and some great parks and hikes in the other. Mark, the owner, is friendly, easy going, and responds instantly. We had a great time and highly recommend it.
We just returned from a wonderful relaxing three-night stay at Oak Hill Lodge with our children and one other family (total of three kids under three). We were in the area for a wedding at Herondale Farm in Ancramdale and found Oak Hill to be the perfect home base for us. It was heavenly exploring the grounds and with our little ones and sitting out on the deck enjoying the stars after they’d gone to bed.
The decor at Oak Hill Lodge is cozy and lovely - rustic in style but generous in size and a perfect complement to the setting. Appliances and other details have been updated, but always with respect to the original design and decor. The patterned, original wallpaper and stained-glass light fixtures in the main floor half-bath were my favorite!
We took heavy advantage of the grill and kitchen and found just about everything we needed to cook. I loved that the kitchen had an upgraded range, sink, and dishwasher, but everything else looked original to the house. Chipmunks and birds would come often come visit the deck, and we often spotted deer and badgers around the property. The grounds were great to explore on foot - we loved taking the children through the field via the mown path, and of course running around on the huge mown lawn.
We slept our two sons in the basement. When we first arrived, it was a bit musty smelling, so we lit a fire in the fireplace, let it burn out, and ran the de-humidifier, and by the time bedtime rolled around it was cozy and the musty smell was gone. My husband and I stayed in the bedroom on the main floor and slept like rocks in the bed. The bed linens were very nice.
My sons had a wonderful time playing with the small box of toys that we found in the main floor closet. The ball, fire truck and doll house set were perfect for keeping them entertained while we cooked.
Mark is a great host. He’s super friendly and responsive, and provided us with a house manual both via email and printed out when we arrived. The manual was so thorough that we only needed to contact him once, which was to ask him where to find a broom.
I would love to return here with my family again. Fall is really an incredible time to be in the area: the trees were just starting to turn and the days were warm and nights cool. If you are a city or Brooklyn dweller and haven’t yet explored this area of our state, I highly recommend it. The fresh air, produce, and bucolic scenery cannot be beat.
Thanks Mark for a wonderful, restorative weekend.
My family and I had a lovely time staying at Oakhill. The views are gorgeous and the location was very convenient to the nearby Berkshire towns. Mark was responsive and easy to deal with. His instructions were clear and the house manual was helpful.
The part we enjoyed the most was sitting in the inviting great room and looking out at the beautiful vista. The house is nice a for a family or group of adults as everyone can have their own space but can still enjoy being together in the large living area.
We arrived in the afternoon and found the keys in the hiding spot. The property was perfect for our family with two small kids. The house was very cosy and had lots of character. The view from the front porch was gorgeous. The kitchen had everything we needed to self cater every night. We saw deer, rabbits and chipmunks most days which the kids loved.
It is quite remote which is why we picked it. We didn't want to leave.
Oakhill Lodge is in a beautiful part of New York state. The property is expansive and great for long walks. It's not too far to the tiny town center (which has a small market and a diner). There's lots to do in the area! The house is as depicted - it's charming but old and its kitchen/baths have not been renovated. Everything worked fine though. A note about the bedrooms: since our group had six people, we made use of all the sleeping quarters. I stayed in the basement, which did smell of mildew (as a previous reviewer noted). There is a dehumidifier available though, so we ran that during the day while we weren't there. Another issue is that there is very little soundproofing throughout the whole house, so we could hear anyone going up and down the stairs or in the kitchen from any of the rooms. Lastly, to get to the basement room, you need to go through the library/bedroom. There is another external door to the basement room, but if it's raining (as it was two days while we were there), it's a bit inconvenient. If there is no one staying in the basement, it's not a problem. In all, it was a a nice getaway for the rate we paid.
Host: Mark was easy to get in touch with and very helpful when we ran into problems with the wifi and managed to get someone out with a replacement modem on the next working day. He is very friendly and responsive.
