The Shoe Factory is conveniently located near Bethnall Green Metro. We found Bethnall Green/Hackney to be a cosy and leafy borough with just the right amount of underrated spark and serenity. It was so quiet and calm at Laura's during the night; no traffic, no parties. We found the layout of the apartment to be very functional. The spare rooms are on the first level with the living and other private quarters upstairs. We also had access to a clean, modern and functional bathroom on our level (towels were provided - that was nice). Yes, the boards creak but really...it's just normal house noises that come and go with shared residence (fleeting). Other things we really liked: quick access to the centre of London and neighbouring boroughs, independence, privacy, wi-fi access, gushing light that comes through the warehouse windows and just little touches that make the stay appealing like the pottery at the end of the bath.
Lovely experience! We had very little interaction with our host, as we prefer to keep to ourselves, but exchanges we did have were pleasant. I absolutely adored Laura's space, and spent most mornings hanging out on the fire escape and roof for coffee. The neighbourhood is cute, close to canals and Victoria Park if you like to walk around and watch the birds.
My friend Juli and me had a wonderful stay at Laura's beautiful space in a wonderful and buzzing alternative part of the city.
Her friend Kate taking care of the organization made it very easy for us to feel at home – and although we never managed to see each other in person (because we were on the road the whole day) we had the feeling of somebody taking care of us very well.
Thanks for everything, we would have loved to stay longer.
We had a really good time at Lauras place: We loft is just beautiful, everything is clean, the area is great (lots of pubs, bars, cafés and markets at the weekends) and everything can be reached easily by public transportation.
Unfortunately we didn't meet Laura but her friend Kate took care of us. She was so nice, helpful and understanding – we felt very welcome during our stay. Definitely will come here again!
Thank you for the welcome.
The flat looks exactly like the description on the web site, it's really beautiful.
We spent a lovely week and we recommend it.
The owner gaves us advice about what to do near to the area (like the Victoria park or the flower market).
The neighborhood is pleasant with a lot of services (pubs, shops, bus station) and the underground is 10 minutes walk.
Laura was a great host! We had a great time at her place. The place was super nice and Lauren was very caring and cute. We defenetly would go there again!:)
Saludos Elisa y Gloria!!
We stayed in Lauras beautiful house for 3 nights. There were some things that we liked, and some not so much. The house itself is an interesting vintage loft, clean and cozy. The common area is relaxing and the earthy colors soothing. Lots of nice places to go around (pubs, cafes and a park) On weekends you should definitely go to the flower and Broadway markets! It's also very close to the central tube line. Kate (friend of Laura's who's doing the actual hosting) is very kind, helpful and understanding and she's definitely going to tend to your needs, although she's busy and not around all the time! A bit on the downside was the window of our room which didn't close well enough and in addition with the fact that there is no heating during nighttime, the room was somewhat cold. Also the wooden floor and stairs are very very creaky, which wouldn't be a problem, but if someone tries to climb up or down in the middle of the night will definitely wake you up! If we were to say one bad thing about the room though, would be that it has no lock on door, so it didn't feel so private, and we didn't feel very safe to leave our belongings while sightseeing during the day. We would recommend it only for someone that wouldn't mind the downsides, especially the latter
We never met Laura, but Kate (the lady who lived in the apartment) was very nice. The room was appropriate and we paid a very good price for what we got. Really close to Central london on the Central line, and very close walk to Bethnal Green. Kate was very helpful on the morning we had to leave as we left some belongings in the house, but she happily came down to let us back in. Wonderful stay! Only issues with the place was occasional coldness (but it was a huge factory building so was going to be cold sometimes).
The Shoe Factory is a nice homey place to stay, and Kate (the friend of Laura, who is doing the actual hosting) was welcoming and nice. It's easy to get into central London from there, and the local cafes and restaurants were pretty good. It should be noted that the heating is only on from 7-10 am and 5-10 pm, so if it's cold you can't go home early afternoon to get warm. After a while we learned to use the toilet, which really had its own personality :) Laura rents out 2 double bedrooms next to each other with a shared bath and toilet, and it could be a bit crowded. But it was the warmest room in the flat. Not that we all sat out there all the time, we just thought of doing it! I bet this place would be very nice to stay at during summer.
Ben and Laura were great hosts, nice and very reliable. I would host them again any time.
Laura and Ben rented my apartment during Berlinale. Kindness, communication, cleanliness - everything was perfect. I would be happy to welcome them again!
lived in laura's flat for over three years now and couldn't think of a nicer place to stay.
The flat is in a light and spacious warehouse with a lot of character. Laura is a great person to life with and always happy to help out where help is needed. Can only recommend that place especially with laura as host.
I've lived next door to Laura for three years - we share a door to the fire escape and roof. She saves my plants from dying and passed soup through the door when I didn't have a kitchen. Laura has made her home a beautiful and friendly place to be. She is a wonderful neighbour and would make an amazing host.
