Our stay was super comfortable. The house was cozy and clean with a lovely view from the deck as promised in the listing. The private room was really spacious and pleasant. It was upstairs away from the rest of the house, so we had a nice sense of privacy. Shyleen, her roommates, and her friends all did their best to make us feel welcome. Shyleen was especially kind and accommodating, and she even got us a new bottle of champagne when one of her other guests accidentally opened ours. Thank you, Shy, for your hospitality!
I arrived later than I expected I would. No problem at all. Shylene and her roommate were friendly, engaging, and I enjoyed socializing with them. We put together a telescope, shared our feelings on matters of intimacy and trust, and in general had an unexpected, stimulating social encounter. I had a blast.
The room is beautiful. Thoughtfully designed and clean, it offers a little nook and view by way of a lovely back balcony surrounded by trees. The bathroom is spacious and has lots of glass (excellent for morning sun). Big fan.
Everything was very clean and it was an a very enjoyable stay. The description was accurate and the host was very accommodating. Great location.
me and my girlfriend were made to feel very welcome on arrival but the. That was the last we heard from Shylene.
The bedroom was clean but the communal areas were not so clean.
The house is in a god location with amazing views. One downside for is was that we were under the impression from the advert that public transport was a 10 minute walk away and not a 10 minute drive to a ferry which is $23 each for a return trip.
Overall I would say if you are looking for just a room the your private space is very comfortable and what you would expect for the cost.
We had a great "first" experience using airbnb. Shylene was so nice and her home was beautiful. You could see her personality in it. The bed was very comfy and it was very peaceful. It was a beautiful drive up to her house. She was very open with giving us information for restaurants or places to hike. We both would go back in a heart beat!
Really great. The views are amazing. There is a nearby trail too where you can see even more views. Highly recommended.
beautiful house, and gorgeous views, but a weird vibe and a clear lack of communication. We didn't feel 'at home' at all. This room is not what AirBnB is about. I do not recommend staying there. Here is our experience:
shortly after booking one night, my friend and I wanted to change plan but it was too late in order to get a full refund according to the cancellation policy (5 days ahead), so we contacted Shylene to discuss the possibility of still getting our money back if we canceled 'late' (3-4 days before). We didn't get any reply to our email, text or phone calls. So not having any reply (and no refund) we assumed that the cancellation did not take place and stuck to our original plan of sleeping over at Mill Valley.
On the day, we rang Shylene to know when we could check in, and she was surprised that we were still coming, thinking we had cancelled. Clearly the communication was an issue here.
We showed up about an hour after our call to Shylene, and to her credit the room was ready for us when we arrived. After a quick tour of the beautiful house and a brief chat with her about places to get dinner, we got ready and left the house, locking our room door. When we came back from dinner, we found our door open... Not cool.
We think the room that Shylene rents out is actually hers and figured she probably forgot to get something from her room before our arrival. But clearly a simple text to warn us would be the thing to do.
We also received a text during dinner to ask that on our return we park our car to the left of her car. However there was not enough room between the fence and her car so we parked on the driveway, but to the right of her car. The following morning, when I checked my phone I saw missed calls and a text sent at 1am saying that it's important we move our car to the other side. We went to check and obviously there was another car parked behind ours. I called Shylene to ask if she could move that car because we wanted to be on the move soon. Shylene instead moved her own car and asked that we maneuvered to get out, because she didn't want to bother the owner of that third car, another (mysterious) occupant of the house.
eventually we left the place, with a sense of relief. Bad vibes.
Shy is great, very kind, and easy going. The private room is very clean and the bed is VERY comfy! The home exceeded my expectations and the housemates were all very nice as well. We hiked to Dipsea trail into MuirWoods from the house and came home to pleasant conversations and Shy baking cookies :). We definitely enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend staying here if you're looking to relax! Thanks again, Shy!
Shylene was a very kind and easy going host. Just wanted to share some general observations regarding the space that might be helpful.
Our personal space was very clean and tidy (bedroom + bathroom).
Shared spaces (kitchen, patio) were messy, and in the case of the kitchen, fairly unclean (unfinished plates of food, crumbs everywhere, minor spills, used dishes etc). We like to use the kitchen for a few minutes in the mornings for breakfasts, however this was very unpleasant.
There were a few additional rules regarding room-mates, the extent of which was unclear in the listing. Since one roommate is very sensitive to noise, and another is very solitary (asked us to leave the kitchen while we were in the middle of preparing breakfast so he could wash dishes) we felt more like intruders in the home rather than Airbnb guests. We are by no means loud, or noisemakers but we felt like we needed to use public spaces quickly to avoid getting in anybody's way.
To be clear our stay was generally okay as we didn't spend much time in the house (out early in the mornings, back late evenings). However, if you plan to spend a bit more time in the place, the above are some points to consider.
What a gorgeous, bright, open space to pause and relax! The upstairs loft is full of windows and light, the side porch is a lovely bonus. The very real bed is pretty dang comfy, too.
The drive into the city is wonderfully simple--I had to dash back and forth a couple of times for a family gathering and it was easy peasy. Shylene and her housemates are super sweet.
Shylene and her sweet pug, Izzy stayed with us for a few days. Both are really charming and friendly and were excellent guests to meet and to host. They are both welcome back anytime!
